Or offer $20 to leex5, and see if he'll bite. I mean its just sitting in his garage, right?

BMW's just crazy like that.

I can also confirm they did delete the 6 disc DVD from premium sound with no real notification. (And no price drop - still $1800)
Not that I'm missing it, its just the principle!
The ordering sheet specially reported what was included in the Premium Sound package. Instead of the DVD disc changer, it now comes with IPOD and Sirius. So, in net effect, you get USB access (for those without Nav) and a lower cost.

Last year premium sound said the same thing but came with DVD (and Sirius and Ipod connection AND USB in glovebox which also is now gone). But thanks for the tip.

I'm confused then. For the 2010 ordering guide, The ipod interface and Siruis satellite appeared to be different options and cost extra. My understanding is that for 2011 that they dropped the multi disc changer and added the ipod and satellite in its place (for no extra cost). This is what I ordered and received upon delivery (no NAV).

From the BMW USA website (for 2010):
Premium Sound Package $1,850
6-disc DVD Changer
Premium hi-fi system

Entertainment Options
Satellite radio with 1 year subscription $350
Rear seat entertainment $1,700
iPod and USB adapter $400

Seems like you lose the multi-disc player but gain $750 in options.

However, I imagine you get the USB port in the glove box with NAV for 2010 though.

Typical of BMW. They deleted speakers from the base stereo system between 2008 X5 and 2010 X5. I have seen they have done the same on 2009 1 Series and 2010. Just because you had an item and feature as standard in a previous version does not mean the bean counters will not try to save a few cents here and there. I ran into this as a issue with my 2009 1 Series which had the alarm pre-wiring deleted the month that my vehicle was produced. When I ordered it my CA was not aware of this change. I am amazed at how penny wise a company can be while being dollar foolish. I am still waiting for BMW Germany to fix their software glitch in the Navigation system for my home exit. BMW NA engineers confirmed the software bug and forwarded the problem to Germany in February. Still 4 months later no resolution.

Its a small piece of paper that was included in the black leather binder. It says, contrary to your owner's manual, your vehicle will not be equipped with the luggage compartment cover and running board (which I did not order).

To all of you who will be picking up your X5s in the near future, make sure you check for this and demand it be included since one poster is saying they are removing them and are selling them for an extra $600.

Just a reminder: your leverage is drastically reduced once you accept delivery and drive the car off the lot. There is a legal reason they put the paper in the binder: once you accept delivery with that document in the manual you've agreed that is the car's 'configuration'.

Prior to accepting the car, you should point to all the documents they've presented to you: the on-line images, the dealership documents, etc. Make sure they complete a document that lists the cover as a "Item that was due to be delivered at new car delivery but was not delivered" (I forget what they call it, varies with dealer and state.) I would not be surprised if some dealers don't know it is no longer included. I wonder if our helpful dealers over in Ask a Dealer would honestly respond to a query about this... ?

Good point, but will my dealer be willing to lose a future returning customer who will be spending $60k again over $600? If yes, they will not see me in 3 years, if not, then I am more than happy to come back. That's my leverage.

Yeah basically, I'm going to say that I just bought a $60K vehicle, intend to store valuables in the cargo area (golf clubs/laptop case/briefcase), and I don't consider the car complete without something to hide them visually.

Btw it is pictured in the X5 catalogue in all the storage area pictures, and makes no mention that it is an optional accessory.

http://www.bmw.com/com/en/newvehicle..._catalogue.pdf

Since the 2011 X5 isn't on the BMWUSA website....well, that's more leverage for us.

It's not coming from the factory. Why would the dealer pull it out?

I have a PCD coming up soon - if this cover isn't installed, well.. they can keep their $60K vehicle.

Absolutely, if all you guys who does not get the cover should definitely raise hell, they (dealer or BMW) will have no choice but to put it back as standard equipment. We all need to speak up!

Just a thought: I noticed "storage package" listed under the "premium package" options for the 2011 X5 35d. Is the luggage cover part of the storage package? Don't know about the non-diesel X5's, but perhaps BMW is trying to force people to ungrade to the premium package (like they are trying to do with the permium sound package by downgrading the base sound system)?

I think you're onto something. The premium pkg on the 35d does include the "storage pkg" - which I thought was the rails on the floor of the hatchback with the hooks for strapping things down (the trunk mat covers these up, BTW)

Not sure what the 35i equivalent would be.. maybe the 35i premium?

"I think you're onto something."

Maybe not, if it is only available within a package, then there's not need for them to include this disclaimer to tell me what my car does not come with, right? For example, I didn't get the premium sound, so I don't expect to see a disclaimer saying that my X5 does not come with it.

Anyone taking delivery soon?! We need the next new owner to tell us if they included this or not, that will probably set the precedent for what the factory is doing for the remaining '11s...

Hopefully you guys are on the something, and I just dug out my order sheets for the 2010 X5 Diesel, that I took delivery of in Feb. of this year to see what it said then.

I did purchase the premium package (ZPP) , and under that code 493 was the storage package. It was my understanding at the time it was the tie down components, but I hope that isn't the case now. ('cause I'm looking at ordering a 2011 soon)

Back in 2003, I remember I bought a new Acura MDX, and the retractable luggage cover was an option (a surprise to me at the time), I grumbled a little bit, and the dealer found one, and installed it at no cost.

Hopefully someone will get the straight scoop soon.

Agree that its absurd.

Some of the new guys may not know that there was a nice lever to hold up the storage compartment lid in the floor of the rear cargo area that also disappeared between the 2009 X5's to 2010 X5's. (Its where the optional spare resides)
