"Some of the new guys may not know that there was a nice lever to hold up the storage compartment lid in the floor of the rear cargo area that also disappeared between the 2009 X5's to 2010 X5's. (Its where the optional spare resides)"
Its one thing to not offer an accessory for the model year, but its another to make it, only to take it out and then charging you for it later. Its not the same.

Another data point: a second person posted on the "another delay" thread yesterday that he received his vehicle sans cargo cover.

I just hope and pray there is a damn cargo cover in my car when it arrives. I am definitely a person who will leave the lot and they will never see again over something like that.
What is the story with the 493 storage package under the premium package? Is this the cargo cover???? |

No cover on 35i Sport
My friend receive his X35I Sport 1 week ago - no cover. When he asked, he was told that it is not a standard anymore.

Holding out hope that the premium package on the diesel indicates a "storage package", which would include the cover. I will check with my CA, but it won't be until next week. Maybe there is hope yet

If your friend did not receive a notice in the owners manual, he has a legally supportable claim for one. A letter to BMWNA citing the manual and the ordering literature would likely be successful. If he did get a disclosure like 0428 got, the SOL A |

Thanks.
BMW needs to quickly update their website, showing the change and option. I am guessing there are going to a lot of folks who have orders out over the next couple of months, upon delivery will be raising.... .........and understandably so

When was your car built? Is is slotted for production, or has it completed?

"Ard...so will there be some chapter in the manual about the cargo cover that says its optional equipment or not?"
The manual does not mention the cover at all. Separately there's a small piece of paper that said your vehicle does not come with it. I suggest you don't open up the black binder or check out all your documentation in front of your CA, so that in case you see the disclosure you can just quietly put it away and then you raise hell. "If he did get a disclosure like 0428 got, the SOL" I can always say I never got that piece of paper. Really hoping my CA can find me an extra one laying around.......

My car was delivered with the complete documentation "pak"... they just took every scrap that came off the truck and handed it to me- part of this is a computer print out that identifies the required "parts" used to "build" the manual/documentation. Think of it as a computer print out or "Bill of Materials" that specifies each document: The USA manual (p/n xxxx); the USA Warranty (p/n yyyy); the tire brochure (p.n zzzz) and on and on. I would not be AT ALL surprised if the notice you received has a part number or other ID number on it, and that BMW has a document that shows your car included that notice by ID number. (Actually if I recall, my document is the last page of a multipart with initials under the included components...just by recollection, not going to dig it up) While you can try a he said/they said, the stronger case will be if it isn't ever there. It is on page 12 of my manual (Online Edition for Part no. 01 41 2 602 756)... it is not listed as an option on the X5, hence it is standard. My 2 cents A |

I am writing an email to BMWNA right now to tell them my displeasure and to demand they offer me one.

what ticks me is that if they did it across the board and nobody gets them for 2011, i will let it slide. but to see some of you getting it and some dont, meaning out 600 bucks, its not cool.

I (probably stupidly) also called my CA this morning and asked about it. She said that they got a bulletin informing them that all x5 35i / 35d built after June 1st (but looks like it happened sooner), will not be receiving a cargo cover as standard equipment. She thought though that the 50i's still get it. I asked her if I can add this on to my build since production hasn't started yet and she said that no it's not even an addable option in 35i, I would have to get it from the parts department after I take delivery.
I don't think we have a legal argument to say that it isn't included as standard equipment unless there is some documentation that states otherwise. If it's listed in the owners manual or the window sticker or some BOM that it is there then we might have a leg to stand on, but without that we don't have the proof that it was ever intended to be included as standard. 0428 let me know what email you sent your complaint to, I want to write the same one to the same address and give them a piece of my mind .... |

Let me try to put some of the speculation to rest based on BMW's official statement:
- the deletion ONLY applies to the MY11 X5 xDrive35i; - the deletion became effective beggining of May; - if you got a first month production MY11 X5 xDrive35i then you got lucky; - Does NOT affect the MY11 X5 xDrive35d or the MY11 X5 xDrive50i; You can still get all the cargo covers: Gray 51 47 6 967 905 Tobacco 51 47 6 969 790 Beige 51 47 6 967 904 Anthracite 51 47 6 955 873 The listed retail is approximately $475. Not sure where someone got $600. If that's what the dealer quoted you then stay away from them! The bulletin was issued May 25, 2010. Hope this helps. |

When I ordered my 35d in the middle of March my previous CA gave me some paperwork that included "Standard Features" and the "Retractable cargo cover" is listed as standard. I will be bringing the paperwork with me and the ugliest face I can make (which is easy for me) as I enter the pick up ring.
