Tire and Wheel Insurance Question

Any thoughts on Tire and Wheel Insurance? My dealer is quoting $1449 for 5yrs. It's $1049 for one year. See attached brochure for the deal. If tires cost ~$250 and wheels cost ~$400, I'd have to blow through 6 tires or a three wheels (+tires) to benefit. I don't have any failure data for RFTs and wheels. There are lots of potholes on the roads in NJ and NY. Any recommendations or considerations one way or the other? Thanks.

For what it is worth I drive a 335xi (07) with sport and optional 18" wheels with performance tires and have gone through 4 blown tires and one bent rim driving the streets of NYC and in NJ. I am glad I opted for tire and wheel insurance (back then in '07 paid $600).

Friend of mine I believe is on tire 8 driving in NYC/NJ over the past 2.5 years with runflats. More than paid for his tire insurance.

Normally I'd say hell no but considering your location (I'm a transplanted NY'er) go for it.

I bought insurance for $600 in 2006. Thought it was expensive and not necessary, buton top of the $85K for the car it wasn't much. Since then I have had 3 punctures and two blown tires (DC potholes). At almost $500 per tire, it was a great deal. I would definitely buy it again.
