2011 X5 50i - M-Package, Hitch Question

Just received my x5 this past Saturday, am thinking of getting a hitch attached for some light transport (bike rack mostly). The lines on this model are stunning, and am worried about screwing with the look... haven't been able to find a picture on line of what the back-end would look like with a hitch - question: how "hidden" can they make it? Anyone have pictures of what this might look like?

I don't think thats possible without removing your M bumper.

Well the back up beepers will scream at you once you install a hitch because the sensors will "see" the hitch as an object behind the truck. At first the Dealer will tell you that there should be no problem until you take the truck back and show them that providing you don't actually install the hitch it is OK, but as soon as you install the hitch all hell breaks loose.
The Dealer will have hacked a hole in the rear panel to accommodate the trailer hitch and will tell you that a new rear panel is being designed that will reposition the back up sensors to solve the problem. The panel however will not be available as it is still being designed in Germany.
I took delivery of my X5 50i in June and am still driving around with a rough hole in the rear panel and no way to tow my boat.
Hope that this helps.

The trim for non-M is available. The programming will disable the parking sesnors once a trailer is attached.

Thanks for the info, but my Dealer tells me that the rear trim panel is still not available. I agree that the programming will silence the beepers when a trailer is attached. But with the current location of the rear sensors they will sense the trailer hitch if you want to have it in place without having a trailer attached. Of course you can defeat the sensors with the dash switch but they will reset everytime you switch off the engine. Presumably there are some Gnomes in Germany trying to decide whether 17.5 deg or 18 deg is the correct orientation for the rear sensors on the new panel.

Some pix at "2011 Tow Hitch."

Rear camera makes backing up to trailer a "piece of cake."
