Sound system

The standard sound system is 12 speakers and 205 watts. Does anyone know if the 16 speaker 600 watt system will be available in the US?

It is available on the 550i when you select the premium pkg 2. I can tell you that it is by far the best audio system I have ever had in any of my bmws!

The 528i is now on the BMW USA web site and last week I ordered one with the Premium hi-fi system which comes with the Premium Package 2. I didn't see it as an individual option so I guess you have to order the package. I really enjoy music while on the road so the specifications look pretty good. It also indicates that it has 5.1 surround sound from the DVD source. The digital 600 watt 9-channel amplifier also sounds good... we shall see.

Indeed it is and I had the Logic7 in my last 550i.

Yes the sound reproduction is excellent the depth and clarity will definitely satisfy you. Its probably the best OEM system I thought the B & O in my last Audi would be hard to beat. The BMW system is definitely best. Although not required, but I suggest you insert a DVD (movie and/or audio) to really guage the quality of sound.

Can we order Premium Hi-Fi system as a separate option? I know the reply above me says you've to get whole package....but rear power sunshade....Who cares about "back seat drivers"?

Also, the package includes ipod adapter...is it useful with new combox? Is smartphone integration worth ordering with new combox?

Unfortunately not. In the US, we have to accept the "boxed options" but looking at other countries (like Germany), I'm actually happy about it because these "boxes" are much cheaper than the individual features. I guess that's the price we have to pay for getting these cars cheaper than anybody else..
