05 745Li - Generator fault

Hello everyone, I was driving last week and I got a Generator Fault message with a battery in the odometer. I checked the idrive and it said:

"Generator Fault!" Battery is not being recharged. Switch off all non-essential electrical equipment. Please contact the nearest BMW center. with a picture of a battery to the left of it.

So I turned off the radio and radar and went away, but sometimes it comes back on and I don't know what is is related to.
Does anyone have a idea what this is?

mine doea that too but it goes a away right away...i belive is your altenaotor or altenator belt...i will take mine to a dealor soon b4 my warranty run out..lol

It was the alternator. I got one from the dealer and did it my self, was about $800-$50 for the core.

Do not buy new alternator all it it needs to be rebuild only the bushs go out. I did mine for $200

Had mine rebuilt too, for around $200 as well.

I wanted to get it rebuilt but I called a few places here in Las Vegas and they said they don't touch german cars so I was out of luck. Other indy's said it would take 2-5 business days to get it and I had to to leave to California so I just got it from the dealer.

I bought a rebuilt alternator from rock auto for $150.
