7 Series - E65 / E66 (2002 - 2008)
Discussion of BMW's 4th generation E65/E66 7 Series flagship. The E65 generated much controversy, due to its radical styling and iDrive user difficulties. Nonetheless, the E65 broke records to become the best-selling 7-series iteration ever, especially after its 2005 facelift.

Soft close trunk problem

Hello. I have an 2006 750i. My niece slammed my trunk closed not knowing it has soft close feature. Now I have to slam my trunk closed every time. The soft close feature still works because I can hear it running. It just doesn't catch until I actually slam it now. my question is do I have to replace the whole motor or is it just a simple adjustment of something?

Remove the hydrolic fluid and add again. These cars have hydrolic fluid. My neighbor did on the 06 e66. He said it was easy.

It's not a problem with the trunk closing. The problem is when it is shut it doesn't close by itself. I have to actually slam it like an old Buick.

Thanks Rick but the problem is in the latch. It doesn't catch to completely close the trunk. You know when u close the trunk slightly, it catches and pulls itself down to completely shut. It doesn't catch anymore. The trunk will be closed but not shut. I can pull it right back up. When I slam it, it's shut completely and doesn't open back up until I push the button. I hope I explained it right.

Yes you explained it correctly. I posted the other one because sometimes the hydraulics do not operate correctly. Does your car have any hydraulics at all? Some of the models did not have them. It may be as simple as a fuse. Or it would be the mechanism itself. You can access your car information in
www.realOEM.com. Have the last seven digits of your Vin number ready when you go to the site and enter that. It will take you to exactly what parts are on your car.

Here's the parts breakdown for a generic 2006 750. Trunk assembly lock mechanism. I would think your problem would be part number 10.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=41_1465

Here's one listed on eBay.

I would double check the Vin number to make sure the parts are exactly the same, however it looks like they are the same part #

Soft close motor can get sticky. If I use my key for some odd reason that soft close motor actuator will get stuck and won't close unless I slam it. I just take a flat blade screw driver and push the actuator one way or another. The it works again. One day I'll for sure be locked out of my trunk

I still think the fluid should be removed and add new fluid. I think they have pressure build up that will not make it close right and latch. I am sure it is nothing electrical.

I doubt spending $100 on fluid is a wise course of action. Confident you could remove the entire actuator & pump and still have the same problem. It's a mechanical issue not electric.

Fluid may also be low.
