Exclamation Bad vibrations... Not the tires..

I am having some bad vibrations, I hvae changed the wheels and tires 3 times trying to remedy this and have determined that it must be driveline or suspension related..

Please help if you can from the symptoms below.

Keep in mind I have changed the wheels and tires 3 times, same issue each time

The car has a "rolling vibration" starting at about 60-70mph feels like its coming from the back but works its way under my seat, then when I slow down I can feel it in the steering. Sometimes its worse then others.. No weird noises, no running issues, idles smooth, no clunks or bangs..

The car just vibrates at interstate speed and I get a little shimmy on takeoff..(sometimes)

Can anyone make sense of this?

Check tie rods and maybe possible rotors(but thats only when you get vibration when braking)

Hmm, I talked to a BMW dealer tech and he said sometimes could be the drive shaft. The center bearing or something like that goes out along with a rubber piece that dries and cracks.

I was wondering about control arms and the guibo... I just hate throwing parts at the car that may not fix it.. also my car isnt exibiting any of the other symptoms that go along with those issues.

so.....Could it be an alignment issue, I got under the car and noticed that the bushings appeared to be in good shape.. Could an alignment cause the vibrations I am experiencing.?

Ok, so I had a shop look at the car and they inspected the following items:

Control Arms
Thrust Arms
Tie Rods
Wheel bearings
Axels
Driveshaft

Tires
Wheels
Brakes

Here is what they claimed should have fixed the problem-

4 wheel alignment
and balancing the tires

They gave me a full thumbs up on the suspension/sterring components

alignment does not produce any vibrations. eccentric rings may be needed if using aftermarket wheels, though that should be specified by the manifacturer as to what size would be needed. yes, that could give you weird vibration issues, too.

if the wheels do not need any rings, then i would check the guibo and center bearing bushing for signs of wear. you may also want to inspect the rear axles for play as well. i have had suspensions similar in design (independent half shafts) create goofy vibrations a few times.

how many miles??

I have got a serious vibration on my car between 45 and 50mph, and I have had the front wheels blanced and the tracking checked and got told everything seems to be ok but was told that they think one of my rear wheels might be buckled. The vibration causes both my steering wheel to shake violantly at 45 to 50 and when braking it vibrated the pedle at the same speeds. What could this be?

Wheel Bearings.......one or both......if it sounds like the vibration is speeding up with the cars speed......then I would defff check the wheel bearings!
If they check out, ( I doubt it)...then drive it back up to 65mph, put your hand in the rear hump on the floor directly where the center counsel ends and meets the floor board ..on the arch...and if u feel a vibration there then its the U or X joints on the drive shaft, at either ends of the drive shaft underneath the car.....you would be able to tell if its the drive shaft if u got under the car, gra a hold of the shaft and TUG at it.....it theres a CLUNK sound....and its the joints.

Also check for bubbles on all tires...when the car is up in the air...vibration that starts at 20mph is usually a bad tire, vibration at 50 to 65 is usually a tire bearing, vibration under 15mph will be a bent rim.....let us know what it is

have front wheel bearings checked!
check for bubbles in the tires...I had a 2 week old tire vibrate my whole car...turns out that I must of hit a bad bump, that pinched the tire sidewalls causing an invisible bubble, ....after a REAL CLOSE inspection.....I found a developing bubble across the whole width of the tire in the rear, changed it and no problems.

Steering vibrations

Believe this or not but my 1995 730I can be a real pig with this problem, The wheel balance is spot on the tie rods and control arms are perfect but I cured this problem by replacing both front disc rotors, the shame is that I cannot answer why this cured the wobble but it did.

So I solved the problem today.. I was doing the brakes on the car today and decided to install the hubcentric rings I ordered from Lakeshorewheeland tire.. The vibrations are completely gone! So, to those of you with vibrations and replica wheels, you need the rings for sure... Thanks for your help, I wish I would have spent the $13 first instead oif the $250 suspension inspection/alignemt/tire balancing..
