98 740il Gas pedal stuck?

Just sold my old 740il (164000) to a young guy.

No more than 3 hours later I get a call from him stating that the gas pedal won't move.

While on the phone he say "Oh wait, I got it" as it apparently started working again.

Called me again this evening and said it's done this a couple times today. Drive around, park the car for awhile, and then when he starts the car up, the pedal is "locked".

Any ideas on why this would happen?

I never in eight years had it happen so I wonder is there anything that he can be doing tat would cause it...

Its sounds pretty darn serious. It should be checked out by a service technician. Or maybe he thinks its a Toyota.

How do you mean stuck? Im guessing like it doesnt want to depress down? On my '01 E38 its got a drive by wire system. Is it the same on the older ones? Only thing i can say is have the pedal portion inspected closely for something hindering its performance.

My 97 has a throttle cable, which is the first thing I would check. After that check the throttle body to see if the butterfly valve is getting stuck on something.

He also might have washed the motor after he bought it and knocked the cable out of place somewhere.
