Mein Auto: Looking for B7
Extended Warranty on 2007-2008 Alpina B7?

Hey everyone...I'm looking at getting a 2007 or 2008 Alpina B7 but am reluctant given there is no CPO program nor BMW extended warranty offered for the car. Does anyone have a B7 with an extended warranty? I've always been afraid of dealing with 3rd party warranty providers...I can just see it now, the supercharger blows and I have to fight with the provider to get it paid for. I'm not even sure a 3rd party will provide an extended warranty given the rare nature of the car. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Give it a search on this site and you should come up with a list of names of companies to check out.

Seven11's comments above about an exclusionary policy are right on target.

You might check with the local BMW dealer, My buddy had 330Ci and got his warranty through the BMW dealer (he did not buy it there) and was happy with it. He did not have any major repairs, a xenon issue and one other thing- the warranty company made money. Had he been one with a weep hole problem or new engine it might have been a lot different. At least the BMW dealer who sold him the warranty thought it was a good product (perhaps a good product for them to make a profit).

Sent you a PM, love the red btw. Both wifey and I find it to be the best 7 color. 15-20 years ago they had a Calypso Red that was nice but not as rich as this red.

Honestly I did a very extensive search just to find 3 companies that would warranty my 760, and the one I went with which was the best option wasn't even supposed to grant me the warranty since I didn't buy the car from there ( I got VERY LUCKY on this deal) anyways in all my searches I've never found a company that will offer an extended warranty for a B7, all the companies I checked out first question was, is your car a v8 supercharged....no.....is it a V12.....yes, sorry we don't cover that engine/model. Thanks.....bummer but let me know if you find someone because they might give me an extended warranty past 60K miles on my 60!

I'm finding the same thing to be the case. When you say lucky, did the company you got still cover repairs when you had an issue? Or did they pull a "sorry we shouldn't have issued this warranty, here's your money back"

Check this out. http://myexoticcar.com/#section3 there is an exclusionary policy in there and they'll quote you on the site: http://www.motorcarswarranty.com for a 5 year plan see quote below, costs of course go down substantially the less time. I'm going to start looking these guys up.

Factory Coverage Cost: $4,826
Seal & Gasket Cost: $650
Wear & Tear Cost: $724
Hydraulic Suspension Cost: $1,950

Total Cost: $8,150

When I bought my B7 (from Jim Ellis Porsche), I also bought an extended warranty from Hendrick BMW. You might check with them 704-535-0885, ask for David Effren in finance. Paid a little over $4k for a 3 year/75k mi warranty. If your factory warranty is run out, the coverage available to you will not be as extensive as if it were still in tact. Good luck.

They let me have, the dealership was scolded by the warranty company but it was still a nice size sell...bet they are kicking themselves in the butt now though, plus since money was already out of my account and papers were signed I doubt they had a choice with out bringing lawyers into it.

If the car is still under the original factory warranty I can give you a quote with Zurich. They have a good Comprehensive policy that is exclusionary, however it is not cheap on the B7. Please contact me if you are interested.

I ended up getting an exclusionary policy from zurich. I purchased it during one of the forum's group purchases, so got a bit of a discount. Good luck.

If it the same Zurich that is the huge insurance company with billions, I would feel safe with them. They may still deny claims but at least they are not going baknrupt (that is what we thought about AIG though).

No CPO on b7?

Guys - are you sure there is no CPO on the B7? BMWUSA lists several 2008 B7 available as CPO? Why do you think it won't cover?

Might be a mistake. I found a lot of dealers had no idea what they were talking about when it came to the B7, and other times it was just a typo and it was a 750 with the wrong classification when it was posted.

Henricks said he'd do it for $5k but he'd write it up as a 750. Not sure if it would be renegged once a huge claim, like tranny came in.

They can negotiate some on the price. They classify the B7 as a 750 for warranty purposes. Did mine that way too. Why do you think there would be an issue with a large claim?

True statement. Ever notice how many 7s are listed as B7s when they are not? Error or just no clue in the internet sales dept? My guess is the latter....

I would imagine the conversation after a $14k claim comes in to go like this "the salesman was mistaken, the policy is to cover a 750 not a B7, we don't issue policies on B7's. Here's your money back."
