How long do e30 engines last?

I bought a very abused Volvo with very high mileage and to be honest it still runs smooth with 120k. I can tell it was abused because it had a boost guage, black oil, black oil filter, and some racing seats. Since I'm looking for a 20 year vehicle I know the car I'm looking for is going to have at least 150k+. This high mileage worries me. I want the car to last well into retirement (I'm 19 now). Is this possible with a perfectly maintained vehicle, like the Saab guy that went to 1 million miles?

I'm pretty sure I have OCD so maintaining an e30 is no problem.

If they're maintained properly they'll run forever......

120k is high mileage ? or you put 120k additional miles on it ?

my first 325e had 350k+miles on it with a broken odo and it lasted 5 years with no fluid changes or maintenance of any kind. it was my DD and i was abusive to that car to say the least.

A new engine and suspension can be put into a solid chassis - all depends if you're looking for transportation, or a fun vehicle to drive.

Just bought an '87 with somewhere over 200k without batting an eye.

I have seen several with stopped odo's in the 250-350k mile range and still going after years of track, DD and abusive drivers. One is a 318 with the 4cyl even.

I was a lucky one, bought my car with 75k original miles 3yrs ago, odo stopped at 82k last summer Still have the original stock Perelli p6 spare in it, and the owner's manual lol.

mine stopped at 120k, but with the previous owner. He was a mechanic so i guess he pulled he miles back to make look better. anyhow, it was my dd, I had a job doing deliveries, and took it on a couple of road trips. it running great.

Whats the key to preserving these cars then? Is anyone's original service indicator still working?

keep up on the routine maintenance and wash you car every couple months during the summer and once a month during the winter, depending on location and what they use for a deicer. also use good oils and good fuels. its that simple
