My new X5 35i PG/CB

Finally picked up the new ride Tuesday at lunchtime. Dealer is walking distance from my job so you can imagine the torture. I took some quick pics today after I re cleaned it to my standards

Few Key things

• Power delivery is not lacking unless you are spoiled by 400+hp. This will keep or out pace many vehicles on the road.
• Tranny is very smooth.
• Handling is very good for a SUV, little heavy compared to my old 335i coupe, but hey that would be expected
• 20' Rims, wide tires and flare extensions gives it a beefy presence.
• Top view Camera is very usefull. Had to squeeze pass an idiot at the bank drive thru, Worked like a charm. I can see this as a must in NYC. Morning Garbage trucks are a pain. You also never have to wonder if you are over the line in a parking spot.
• Premium Stereo is WOW. Playing music sounds very good (after tweaking). Now playing movies is "HOLY COW" good. Played a DVD movie on the NAV screen, and it was like listening to a $100,000 home theater. Just on point.
• I love the color combo. PG seems to have a mind of its own. Sometimes it looks green, sometimes blue but I am not complaining. Cinnamon Brown has a perfect tint of red and just looks good all around with the anthracite liner.

Overall I am Very Happy and well worth the wait.

NICE! Really looks great, enjoy, have had mine a couple of weeks, love it.

Congratulations -- glad your wait is over! Really like the cinnamon -- ours will be with Alpine White exterior. Couple of questions: How long did it end up taking to transport from SC? And, you can watch DVDs on the Navi screen?!

Beemersn, I see yours is AW same as mine, first white exterior for me. I went to Florida and back through many rain storms and still looked clean, I can get used to this.

Three out of my current four rides are alpine white. My preferred color is Ivory white. Unfortunately, BMW doens't offer this color in standard selection.

BigRobb.....just picked up my PG/CB 35d today and I'm in LOVE. I'm so glad you're happy with yours too....I'll be posting pics as soon as I can stop driving it.

Can't go wrong either way. AW shows a nice contrast against the black, easy to clean, but doesn't shine the same.
Prob best to stay with your 1st choice though. I am happy I did, but I sure had my doubts too.

how did you manage to get that steering wheel? I thought it was only part of the sport activity package...did you get that?

Also the sport activity package look slightly different... the wheels you have look like the sport wheels on the 5.0 model...

can you elaborate?

For 2011 it's an X5 35i Sport Trim level, not an actual package. The standard options are different depending on the trim
20 inch style 214 (hand me downs from the old 4.8i) with wheel flares are standard on the sport. The 50i gets different 20inchers as an option

Lease deal wasn't to shabby, I was looking at Mercedes, and Audi and there lease prices are through the roof.

Sorry I don't like talking about prices online, thats just me, but I got mine over at Rallye in WB. Demand is still pretty high so the cheapy deals are still hard to come by unless you find a desperate dealer. Things are selling like hotcakes. I picked up some plate frames at a different dealer and two guys came out drooling all over it.

Oh yeah I got the "xDrive35i Sport Activity" trim. If you go to BMWUSA you can see them listed differently.

Nice X5 there! Looks great with those rims. I have a question about the Side/Top View Camera system.

-When you select Reverse gear or press the PDC button, does the screen show you the Rear View or the Top View Camera?
-Does the Top View Camera work when you are in a parking structure/garage?

If you have time, can you post pictures of the Top View Camera when its activated? I have seen it in brochures, but want to see "real life pictures" of it. It seems like a really cool option.

Depends on what you used last, The PDC button works in tandem with IDrive. You click the knob to switch between rear and top view.
Yes the cameras work anywhere as long as the side mirrors are not folded. Top view is just an illusion trick with 3 cameras that works very well.

Here is a link on youtube. I think it looks better in person, but you should get the idea. Objects closer to the camera (side mirrors) look more distorted as it ruins the illusion. Objects on the ground (lines, curbs, man hole covers) look fine.


Side view cameras are shown too but is N/A on the X5.

Did you have a chance to test drive the 35i premium and if so how does the ride quality compare?

Nope but the sport is pretty good. Premium is prob a tad softer.

I too am looking at X5 alternatives (I'm currently in an '08 535xi...need more room and I'm not sure about the new 5er). I like the cosmetics that come with the sport activity package, but I'm not about those 20" wheels / wide tires --- I think you can opt for the 19" wheels/tires that come on the Premium for $0 difference. I want to drive the 20" & 19" versions back to back to feel the difference. I'm in upstate NY so I know I'll have to go with dedicated snows if I opt for the 20"...probably OK with 19" all-seasons for winter. And I'm guessing those 20" perf tires are expensive and won't last very long.

I have the PG color on my current 5 which I like a lot, but I've seen the X5 in AW and it also looks great.

If anyone drives both the 20" and 19" wheel versions please let me know your thoughts.

I changed my color to PG last week from Alpine White. I'm still pondering if it was a good decision on my part...hehehe. I guess I like both.
