Post 325i COMMON PROBLEMS

I just bought myself a 2003 325i alpine white
Now I been doing some research online and I being wondering what a the most common problems that a 325i has?
I found from http://repairpal.com/cars/bmw/325i
and
http://repairpal.com/bmw-325i-2003

That is has plenty of problems and really expensive.
Will somebody tell me that I'm wrong? Is it worth it having it? I currently have 30days to return the car. Do you guys think I should return it and get a different one?

Thank you

Wick

I have a 2003 bmw 325 4 door auto in white with over 100,000 miles. Owned since it had about 17,000 miles/2005
I have seen and reviewed the repair pal list for multiple cars.
The list is spot on for this car model/year.
I have done all out of warranty work myself except for a computer download at dealer and required tires.
If you are unable to do the work yourself or to find an independent mechanic it could get costly to keep any BMW.
It is not that BMW's are inferior but the fact that they are geared as performance cars and as such sometimes cost more than a HONDA or Toyota to keep-up.
Again, just about any BMW/Mercedes/Audi has a similar list of problems.
Avoid dealer repair..just about any dealer service/repair is $500.
But BMW's drive nice.
Comes down to either having the money or obtaining some knowledge/tools on how to keep them running.
Purchasing a used one with NO knowledge can become a huge money pit fast.

I believe you need to take some of these horror stories with a grain of salt. Whenever your puruse a car forum, in addition to finding a huge amount of very useful and helpful advice, and run across a lot of great, like-minded people, you tend to get a severely skewed impression of all the things that can go wrong with a car. This is because, obviously, a large percentage of the posts are from people describing their problems. Very few people will post a thread saying, "I just went 25K miles since the last scheduled service with no problems."

I own a 1992 Porsche 968, and before I bought it, I did a ton of research, primarily though the forums, and was so alarmed by what I found, I almost didn't buy one. I've had mine over five years, with many trips to the track, and it's been about as reliable as a Honda Accord.

I do totally agree with im that it is very helpful if you are able to do much of the maintenance work yourself. Common problems with the car include the coolant reservoir, the window regulators, suspension bushings, the steering coupler, and a variety of gasket leaks. All of these things can easily be taken care of at home, or by a good independent mechanic. In addition, it is a very good idea to stick to a strict preventative maintenance schedule, including changing the oil every 7500 miles or so (despite what the computer says), flushing the coolant every two years (will help the water pump last), as well as the power steering fluid, and brake fliud. You should also change the air filter every 15,000 miles or so, and probably do the fuel filter every 75K or thereabouts.

Consumer Reports, which has a huge database on these cars (and obviously every other type of car) actually rates them as average to above average reliability, depending on the year. So yes, all kinds of horrible things can go wrong with these cars, but the reality is that if you take proper care of it, most likely it will reward you with reliable service.
