535xi questions

I need to go all wheel drive. just tested the 535i with and without the sport/dynamic drive package. Without the packages, the car reminded me of a floaty 1976 Cadillac Sedan de Ville. With the packages, it was much more engaging and direct. The question is, will the 535xi be available with the full sport/dynamic drive systems that are on the rear wheel drive version? I believe the old 535xi's sport package was mostly cosmetic without the suspension upgrades...As of yet, the dealer has not been able to answer the question....thanks for the insight...

I have placed my order for the 550i xDrive. My dealer and I did this together on his computer directly to BMW. This includes the full ZDH Dynamic Handling package. The sport package is cosmetic expect that it includes the 19" type 332 wheels.

The only things not available on the 550xi version are the sport transmission with paddle shifters and the Integrated Active Steering. I am sitting here looking at the copy of my order form as I type this.

great info...thanks. I assume the 535xi will have the same option as the 550xi. so I guess the question will be how much difference does not having the sport suspension on the xi make to the feel of the car....without the sport, the rwd version seemed lousy in my opinion.

I would never, ever buy a BMW without the sport suspension. Some people want a German Lexus and not a BMW. BMW just wants to increase its market share to those people. I agree with that totally. Just so long as they still offer BMWs to those of us who want one. But don't think you can get a real BMW for the price of a Lexus. The extra five grand for the needed sports extras (on the rear drive version) are really cheap considering what you get.

i agree. my challenge is i want the BMW feel (just left a 2007 550i sport 6speed manual lease) but I need awd. Without the sport suspension, the car seems to drive soft. I might downsize and go to a new audi s4 for kicks while my kids are relatively small....any other ideas? don't like the Audi a6/S6 steering....

No, I think the only car you will be happy with is the 550xi or the 535xi with all the sports options. I love the sport transmission, but the standard 8 speed without the paddle shifters will be fine. I will miss the active steering, but the xDrive has front to rear instantaneous torque transfer that kicks in when oversteer is detected and should make for an excellent high performance enhancement.

The X6 5.0 has been tested and said to handle like a sports car on the track. The 5er is 5-6 hundred pounds lighter and should be even better. I think the 550i xDrive will drive rings around your rear drive '07 550i, on the road and on the track. It would be nice to have a road test before placing an order, but I am confident. I just need a back seat and AWD regardless.

For what it's worth, the 550GT xDrive offers the ZDH with both adaptive roll stabilizers and active damping, according to the BMWUSA website.

I've certainly been amazed by mine. After the "soft" steering of my IAS-equipped 750i, the (non-Active) steering in the X6 is a revelation.

The 550i xDrive is not available with active steering, weighs 500 lbs less than the X6, and has the same engine. It should be a beast.

just stopped at the dealer, no information on pricing or options for the xdrive models was available, per sales manager. Saw a Mojave metallic, what a beautiful color, would also like to see the Tasman Green.

I'm no fan of Tasman Green, but I think the Mojave sounds interesting. I've yet to see it in the metal, though.
