DIY - My new fog light LED Halo's ! Check it out !

Hi All.

I need to thank t_clealy for this as i saw it in his signature pic so decided to do the same.

I basically bought 2 off 80mm LED Halo Rings off Ebay.

The LED plastic rings come in white so i painted them Matt Black to hide them a bit better.


Even better i wired them to the Main Halo Ring wiring (super easy to do) so all Halo's come on at once .....

and best of all .....NO CANBUS ERRORS !!!

Took a week or so to arrive ....am in the UK....


You wire them to the Main Headlight connector .....X130 in this pic :



Wire positive to the single thinnest wire at the bottom of the X130 connector
(Left Headlight wire - Gray/Green)
(Right Headlight wire - Gray/Blue)

Wire negative to an Earth/Ground Nut on the car chassis....

..that's it !!

The wiring is easy .....the pain in the butt is getting the wires from the Fog Light area up to the Main Headlight Connector (X130 in my pic above)

To install the LED Rings i followed the DIY to install/change the Main Halo bulbs to LED.....in post 2005 cars this invovles removing the bumper......but if you have a wire coar hangar you can feed the cable through....it's just a bit fiddly.

If you also remove the foglights (only 2 screws) you can get your hand right up inside the car to feed the wires through.....

Looks great! This will be my next mod along with the LED turns sigs front and rear.

i just ordered one too ....man i think that look awsom ...after all 7 look is getting kinda old...

Are they plug and play or do you have to splice wires? The wire looks too short in this picture.

I like it, how much were they and are they water resistant?

yeaaaa...

i think you are right, i like them on TECH's car but to be honest i dont think i will install mine

i gotta see if i like them when they come in... and if they are as good as TECH says i will have to kep them.

I took some photo's during the prep of the LED Fog Halo rings :

This is what you get delivered....2 off 80mm LED Rings with LED on a white plastic ring :


First ring painted with Grey Primer (paint both sides to seal it better):


Painting second ring ...(just take your time and not paint the top of the LED itself) :


First ring painted Matt Black :


Both rings finished on LED side painted Matt Black :


Finally on back of the LED Ring.....I desoldered the short wires and soldered longer thicker guage ones .....then paint the connections to seal them :


To connect the RED wires to the Main Headlight Connector you just need 2 off Snap Fit Connectors which splice into the wires.....you only need one for each side......


Here's my Headlight Connector.......For each side Wire RED to (Left Headlight wire - Gray/Green) and (Right Headlight wire - Gray/Blue)....it's the bottom thinnest wire on the Headlight connector :


The Black wire just goes to an Earth Ground Nut on the car chassis ...which there are several to choose from....

Tech, i think you have to put low amp fuse in line with your new halo lights, since i dont think original line has one, and this rings not as good as factory sealed, and will definitely deal with water, this is just my opinion.
I am not going to install it in my car, less is more, and also i seen this rings before on that 53' trucks

I'd get it but im afraid of the water damage and stuff, they should be more like internal lights not for outside use

I do but i definately don't think it looks like an Audi cos they are round....and definately not at night or evening when all my halo's are on.....

.....On the water damage side .......i painted them with 3 coates of paint ...pretty thick.....to seal them..... but i may consider putting a fuse in-line too as you suggested above.

I was even considering coating them in Humi-Seal but thought i'd see how it goes.......worst case i pop a fuse or knack an LED ring which are super cheap to replace.

....I don't think the other rings you mentioned above will fit as the ones i fitted are just wedged into the bumper .....VERY tight ......i reckon the others ones may break.

Hmmmm..i'm up in the air on this one...wish i could see them in person...if you get a chance, post a youtube clip of them at dusk/dark...Maybe we can get a better sense of how they look...Installed with double sided tape??
