I love this:

"M Sport Package
The M Sport Package (ZMP) returns to the 5 Series delivering performance and style for the most
enthusiastic of BMW drivers. The package starts where the Dynamic Handling Package leaves off but
brings a number of M style visual cues. They are: The M Aerodynamic Kit for a sportier and aggressive
look, M Steering Wheel for the best ergonomic grip, Aluminum Hexagon interior trim (wood available),
and to finalize the look are the M double-spoke light alloy wheels (size 18" on the 528i and 19" on the
535i, 550i, 535i xDrive, and 550i xDrive – RWD models offer performance run-flat tires and xDrive
models offer all-season run flat tires). "

Does this mean the M-package is purely cosmetic? Are there any performance enhancements (suspension, etc)?

Usually, it is just cosmetic like it is in the current 3 series.

Mein Auto: Not worth mentioning
Hopefully, this package doesn't replace the currently available Sport-Package. Generally, I'm not a huge fan of putting M-Gear on non-M cars.

TXPearl,

Thank you for the information. It's a little late for me since I just came back from Munich picking up my 550i w/sport package. Although, I think it's great that BMW did not wait until 3 years before providing M-Sport pkg; I do believe they should have inform buyers that the package would be available in September like they did with other options such as, Xdrive, surround camera and etc.. I would have waited since I can not stand the the rims on the current sport package. In fact, I begged to have them changed and they would not do it at least according to my dealer.
Last, BMW already outdated my car (with Sport pakage) and it's has not been delivered to the States yet and the fact the car only has been out for not even 2 months.

Last, I live 15 minutes from BMW North America headquarters and I am going to drive there and give them my opinion regarding this issue.

Rick, I agree.

Usually, BMW waits a few years to offer the Msport package (near the end of the model life cycle) as a way to improve sales. On the F10, they've shot their wad just a few months into this thing.

Should we infer something about sales performance of the F10?

I have a 550i Sport on order, as well. (Actually, it's just waiting for a boat at this point.) Like you, I don't like the 550i Sport rims. I like everything else, though, and would not want the M-Sport package instead. (Like someone else mentioned, I'm not a fan of "M" bits, pieces, and badges on non-M cars.) I'm considering replacing the rims once I have the car, but I have no idea with what. I actually prefer the 535i Sport rims to the 550i's, but not sure I want to go that route, either.

Ya know, that was my opinion on wheels too until I saw them in person. The 550i rims have a certain "presence" that the 535i, though attractive, don't have.

I hope my feelings change, but I have seen them in person. I don't know what it is, but they seem to have a little bit of Lexus GSh to them or something. Not what I would consider a "sport" rim.

My 535 is "awaiting transport". Will I get the s/w upgrades (eg: the new Bluetooth and iPod/USB features) automatically, when I bring it in for service (post s/w release)?

Read the bulletin: "These enhancements will extend the functionality through improved integration of mobile devices into the vehicle. These new features are made possible by hardware advances and are not “retrofittable” to pre-September builds."

Anyway, the M-Sport Pkg (at least for the US market) is cosmetic only. This speaks to how BMW is positioning the 5er in the market. I hope it doesn't trickle down to the 3er (i.e. F3x).

Your right, they're tacky, 535 sport rims are beefy

Does anyone know when they will announce the pricing for the 5-series M-package. Its odd that it is absent, whereas other sections discuss/disclose pricing.

Hasn't the BMW M sport package always been cosmetic? Maybe the M steering wheel enhances the driving experience, but as far as I have researched, the suspension is the same as the sport suspension, for both the E60 and E9x.

I have the 2008 M-Sport 550 and I understood that it had a more robust M-Sport Suspension, but maybe I am wrong.

Does the upcoming US M-Sport Package include a M-Sport Suspension? Or is it all cosmetic stuff like the press release appears to state?

MSport

The E60 MSport package in the US did have a different suspension than the standard sport suspension. I had a 2007 550i sport and currently have a 2010 550i MSport and could tell the difference from day one. Hopefully BMW will see the light an offer a true MSport package here in the use, suspension included.
