Shimmy in the front end

Hi People,
I have a shimmy in my front end when I put the brakes on. I pulled the wheels and inspected the brakes and everything looks good. I had some really old tires on the car an have replaced them as well as the wheels, shimmy still there.
Anybody experienced this before or know what it might be?

The upper and lower control arms have rubber bushings that wear out over time. It's usually cheaper to replace the whole control arm rather than just the bushing, but it can be done. Get a Haynes Repair manual or better yet, a Bentley Repair manual and it will tell you exactly how to replace them. Not real difficult but a fair amount of work. Buy quality parts, I prefer Meyle. And check your sway bar links, a common source of noise. Mine were shot and I replaced them for less than $20 each.

I have ordered new upper & lower control arms, L&R tie rod assy's, L&R sway bar links, idler arm, center tie rod, and since the front will be all new, rear pitman arms, rear sway bar links and rear subframe mounts. I'll take them to my BMW mechanic and have everything installed. Might as well bite the bullet and do it all at once instead of waiting for the next piece to fail. Thanks again for your help.
