The problems finally ate away at me...

After spending 6 months with not a single day without some kind of issue with the car... couple large, mostly small... I am about to head in to trade it off.

I made an offer on a used 2010 (*gasp*) S5 with 4100 miles that I figured they wouldn't take with my trade... but they did.

I have to go home and peel a few things off the car and bring it down to the dealer. I have had various audi's before and sadly the local service center has proven to be a bit more thorough and responsive than the local BMW folks.

I will have to say the 645 was a great car and just felt so connected to the road at all times... but I just couldn't shake the problems. I still have a 2300$ balance of warranty that I can recoup so I jumped on it.

Hopefully I'm not in the same boat with the new Audi....

Audis are great cars. I (very reluctantly) sold my S4 when I got the M6...still missing that car! The S5 is a superb choice! Good luck!

I think you made a great choice. If you're going to step out of a 6er it sure as hell better be something sporty, fast and luxurious. Great pick! Enjoy. Post pics when you get it (even though its a 6er forum)

Well I've thoroughly enjoyed the company of this forum for what its worth. I was a heavy contributor to audiworld.com back in the days of my A6's, and it's nice to see that there are still good forums with good helpful people around in the sea of bad ones.

I'll still probably keep up with everyone as I developed a true appreciation for BMW's driving experience -- which was very hard for me to accept being an Audi nerd before. I loved the feeling of the 645 but the M6 was already itching at me so... we'll see what the values are in the next couple years when the new body style is out and I'm definitely keeping that on my last as my next 2nd car.

I'll surely take offers... I have about 2200 into them when new and have about 4000 miles on the setup. The wheels are VMR v718 (staggered) and the tires are Yokahama Advans and have been pretty much babied for those miles. PM me if you are looking to make an offer and I'll consider any I get seriously.

Sad that you are trading it in, Good to see it go to something worthwhile like the S5.
When/or ever I get my 6er i hope i have better luck with it.

S5 is a solid choice. I am surprised a used 645 can fetch a barely used AUDI S5?? How much was the S5 retailing for? I kinda wanna make this trade too lol.

Oh believe me, there was a large bag (or whole back seat) of dollars exchanged along with my 645.

I ended up getting the S5 (its a prestige package model) for $28k on top of the 645. Minus all the dealer trade-in fudgery, the total actual cost of the S5 came in at $56k. Sticker on it when it sold new 4 months ago was $61k so... a savings of about $5k for a 4100 mile car with nearly all of its remaining factory warranty. I see 2009 prestige models going for 53-54 that still so I was content with the numbers.

I had considered that or a gently used M6, however, the scales were tipped by the quattro. We have hellish winters and about 4 months of summer up here so I'll be happy to be able to use the car in the winter months with the application of some blizzaks. My last A6 was a champion in the snow with decent tires on it.

I was at a decision point of either buying an SUV/truck for the winter, or combining the value of that possible truck with my 645 value and having a single vehicle to worry about and garage. I opted for the latter after a few test drives.

Agreed, good choice. Audi has come on strong recently and I really like its offerings.

I'm probably two years away from trading the 645 and so far (knock, knock) nothing major. We're a two Bimmer family, currently, but given BMW's lack of dependability and long-term cost, I doubt seriously that I'll stay with the brand.

The S5 is a nice ride, I have seen some on the road down here and they always catch my eye. Pretty much that is how I judge cars regardless of make and brand.

I just went to head over to the Audi dealer to finalize the trade and the car dumps another "PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION" and now the airbag and seatbelt service indicators are on again. So... it went back to BMW service instead for the day.

What are the odds?

lol what are u looking for in a car though? if its status and wow factor...the 6series has the audis number imo even though its older...brand new..our 6's cost much more than the audi if im not mistaken

yeah but they are not brand new anymore. your car can be had for 25k now. i test drove the s5 the other day. they only wanted 58k for it

Well I've had the car for a day now after the 6 finally went willingly. The BMW SA said they found something in the trunk that was causing the restraint failure and then cleared the restraint system alarm. He told me that it could possibly have been caused by the water leakage and gave me a slightly worried look and said there might have been more damage than they initially had found. He knew I was trading it in though and was as helpful as possible to get it traded and once again didn't charge me a thing. For all the issues I had, I was happy with the service dept as they only charged me and billed my warranty company 1 time, and I had been in there a lot. SO, kudos to them at least, and now I get nearly a full refund on my warranty as well.

I saw a new A6 the other day with an aftermarket diamond mesh grille and it looked amazing. Might be something to look into if you're a chrome guy...

Thanks. I'm actually already in the market for the RS5 one piece grill with no divider, as I think that big one piece mesh grill looks great, but cant find one yet. I swear I had seen one at one point and time ages ago when I was looking at S5s but -- no dice today it seems. I'm hoping once the RS5 is out, there will be fitted aftermarket replicas for the S5 floating around.

I would agree. Those driving LEDs are probably the most noticeable part of the car. I'm pretty sure they are damn near as bright as the headlights themselves.
