2010 X5 Driver Seat Problem...HELP!!!!

I am in the military and was deployed to Iraq when I ordered my new X5. I got one fully loaded and paid over $70 for the 35D with all the gadgets. When I got home, my new ride was in my garage waiting for me. The first thing I noticed was that there is a slight buldge in the driver seat at the base. It feels like the lumbar is slightly inflated and it is pressing into my back. For short trips around town is hurts, but is bearable. However, for any long trip, I can only handle about 4 hours then i am done. My back hurts so much from this that it takes several days to recover. I hate lumbar support and NEVER use it. I took the vehicle to the service department and was told that the X5 seats are just not that comfortable and that I am feeling the springs. After paying so much for this vehicle, I am utterly speechless that this vehicle would have this problem. I do not remember this problem when I went on a test drive....although it was such a short trip that maybe I did not notice this. Has anyone else experienced this problem???? Please advise. I am actually considering trading it in for a Jeep Grand Cherokee and take the loss.

I assume you have tried the lumbar adjustment? You should be able to move it up and down, as well as in and out.

Absolutely. It is all the way down and all the way in. The service tech said what I am feeling is the springs and that the X5 just has bad seats and is uncomfortable for long rides. I was like "are you kidding me!!!"

What seats do you have? Sport? Comfort? Regular?

I dont think there are different options like sport, comfort, and regular in the X5. I just went to the BMW website and it did not give me an option to change the type of seat.

You have a defective seat. Demand comparison to another car and replacement!

First of all, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.

The active ventilation multi-contour seats are BMW's top of the line seat. Almost without exception, owners and testers rave about these seats. You should easily be able to drive 12 hours in your seat with zero discomfort. I have the "base" seats in both of my X5 and they are superb, but not as adjustable as yours.

The folks that have multi comfort seats often have a hard time finding the "right" position, since there are so many adjustments - many more so than any other seats you are likely to have owned in the past. My bet is that somehow you have gotten the adjustments all wrong. (Lots of folks find the lumbar adjustment counter-intuitive. To deflate the bladder you need to hold the rear-most quadrant of the button down). It is also possible - though less likely - that there is a manufacturing defect with your seat; for example, the lumbar control is disconnected and you cannot deflate the lumbar bladder.

I have never, ever heard of any BMW seat having a "bad spring". If it does, BMW will replace it under warranty.

When you purchased the vehicle, the customer advisor (BMW speak for salesman) should have given you a complete walk-through of the vehicle and helped you find the right adjustments. If half an hour of reading the Owner's Manual and fiddling with the adjustments doesn't result in a comfortable seat, I would go back to the sales guy and have him walk you through the different permutations.
