Fluid changes

I have been reading threads where people are saying to change all there fluids under 10k after purchasing their bimmers. Would fluids (eg transmission, differential) really have to be replaced that soon.

To me it is a matter of personal preference. If you are planning to keep your car for a number of years or take it to the track, then it is probably a good idea to change your fluids around 10k. But, if you are a daily driver and only going to keep your car for 3 or 4 years, it is probably overkill.

It might be a good idea to find a BMW recommended service schedule for cars produced before the "lifetime" fluid fill and free maintenance era and follow that schedule.

I plan to keep my X3 for more than 6 years. Right now, it is 2 years old with 30k miles. Sometime between 50k -60k I plan to change my transmission, transfer case and differential fluids to full synthetic. That is just my preference.

As I posted in another thread, I would change oil every 5k. Using dealer schedule it started using a quart every 2500 miles after about 85,000 miles. Dealer says normal, others disagree.
