Smile New to Forums(Sort of)

Hi name is Frank and I purchased my Cosmo metallic E38 740i(sport package) with 123000 for 5500$ about 5 months ago. And so far I've fallen in love with the car so much power, handles great, the styling of the car with the m Parallel's is just absolutely amazing.
The maintenance that i've hit though has been pretty big.
Valve covers
intake gaskets
instrument cluster
Alternator (water cooled)
Battery
Expansion hose's
Expansion tank
ABS Module
MAF

The alternator and MAF I did on my own. Changed out the Cabin filters and the air filter when I did the MAF.
In the upcoming month I'll Be doing to whole power steering block and oil pan gasket.
Then november I'll be changing the brake pad and i'll be using ceramics since they produce less dust.
Even though I've hit a lot of maintenance I still love the car it such amazingly perfect looking and handling car. What made me love the car more was the fact that it was built on my birthday 9/10/98 I myself was born on 9/10/93. But anyway I've been around the forums, I'm just new to finally posting aha.

Welcome, and same here. Never would imagine I would have pulled an engine and tore it down to the pistons to put it all back together. Learned more doing this than i could have ever read...

Really? You did that?
I figured it's a lot easier to learn about these cars than constantly going back and forth to the mechanic, Even if his prices are good.
Thank god for oemmbimmerparts.com

Thumbs up

Welcome to the boards, Frank. I'm pretty new here myself. I went through the same thing with my baby. Rear Brakes, Alternator(water cooled), Torque Arms, Rear Ball Joints, Expansion tank, secondary air pump, Heater valve, and Front Brake Calipers.
I still have a lot of detail items to take care of. Rear door ashtray, Instrument cluster pixels, and glove box handle. But it's coming along.
Bought the car in 2/11 with 69k miles. the car now has 104k miles!!! and I'm about to do a complete cooling system revamp. Water pump, radiator, poss. fan, hoses, belts....plus sparkplugs, oil change, and filters(fuel, air, cabin, and HVAC box)

I'm happy I haven't had to do suspension work.(Yet) lol.
Oh my cigarette lighters don't work so I can't charge my phone Is it a fuse?
I just ordered my whole power steering block and my oil pan gasket so I'll be doing that this week along with my Halo rings
I've had mine for 5 months and already put 5000 miles on it and I plan on putting a lot more this car is a beast to drive

Gotta be honest. I haven't found alot on these cars to be tough to fix. Just time consuming. But a little patience and effort. They are actually fairly easy to work on..

oh and proper instructions on how to do it, goes a long way as well...

Check Fuse 52 in the trunk above the battery.

i know this is off topic about the cig lighter.

I actually read a post some time ago, about a guy that changed his cig lighter to a push button start.. I thought it was pretty ingenious. Who would ever think if they got a hold of your key to use the cig lighter to start the car once the key was in the ignition..

Just thought it was interesting....

okay back to troubleshooting...
