Customs clearance time in Brunswick, GA

Hello,

Anybody know about how long it's taking to clear customs in Brunswick, GA? My car arrived there on July-11.

Getting itchy for my PCD trip....plus my current Infiniti lease expires August 9.

Thanks,
Jay

It should not be longer than a week. Don't be surprised if BMW NA tells you otherwise, I would contact customs directly they should be able to help you. My ED car left customs properly, but repair was made to the rear bumper at the VPC, which BMW NA and my dealer choose not to disclose to me; official story from BMW NA was that the car was waiting for the software update for 3 weeks. I found about damage to the bumper going for service to the different dealer and carfax shows the record.
I would not worry too much about your car, (repair to my bumper was done properly, but the record stays with the car and possibly I lost some value due to repair) the point is BMW NA (as well as dealer) tells you whatever is convenient for them at the moment.

My car was unloaded on July 6; cleared customs on the 13th; was released to trucking on the 17th; and arrived at my dealer (in Atlanta) on the 21st. TeeZee's car was on the same ship as mine and it wasn't released until the 15th or 16th. Basically, count on 2+ weeks from unload to dealer delivery.

This is good news. I assume there was no damage requiring repair. Mine just got to port on the 24th and still shows a status of "Discharged". I am trying to coordinate a 1-day M school for the 12th which would be just under 3 weeks...not sure I'm going to make it.

There seems to be a lot of cars being damaged in transit these days. The last few reports indicated that the VDC didn't fix anything, so I guess its a positive that they fixed yours as the work there is supposed to be top notch, but the lying about the reason for the delay is just wrong... big BMW.

I am tracking mine but it has sat without a status update for 3 days. It still does not show a DELIVERED status to customs. Just shows it was taken off the boat.

DISCHARGED BRUNSWICK, GA 24-07-2010 15:45:46 1
LOADED ON VESSEL BREMERHAVEN 08-07-2010 12:17:16 1
RECEIVED AT TERMINAL BREMERHAVEN 07-07-2010 08:00:44 1
BOOKED BREMEN 01-07-2010 14:20:12 1

Did you all track and see the same? Other ports seem to show a DELIVERED status the same day as DISCHARGED.

Mine showed exactly what yours does until it cleared customs, then there were two new rows ("CUSTOMS CLEARANCE" and "DELIVERED FROM"). From that point on, you have to get the "VDC status" from your CA or from the BMWED department.

my car arrived at port of Brunswick on 8/2.
according to WW it cleared customs on 8/11 (though bmw told me that day it was still in customs).
car was released to trucking to leave for the dealership on 8/13.

Hopefully it actually got onto a truck yesterday, or will today, in order to arrive to the dealership in ATL tomorrow. Less than two weeks from arrival at port to arrival at dealership seems very acceptable.

Pardon my ignorance, but who/what is WW? Are they the logistics/transport company in the US? Did you by chance check/confirm the arrival date with your dealer? Curious to know if the dealer is also informed at this stage.

Oops! My bad...I just found out that I already had answers to my first 2 questions: WW = Wallenius Wilhelmsen (the shipping company for the US east coast)

Its good to know that they have information about the car and you could actually call and ask them about it.

yup i was referring to the shipping company. I am not sure if you can call them to get the information, but you can track the status of the car up til customs clearance on their website by using the VIN or B/L number. The customs status information is questionable though. It seems to be accurate for some people, and inaccurate for others.

Not sure what information the CA has, other than me having told him my car is supposed to arrive today. I believe he can check the same info as the BMW ED office. But I don't think he actively checks the information unless requested. I chose to bother the ED office instead of the CA.

Mine landed in Brunswick 7-19. According to WW, it cleared Customs on 7-30, but according to BMW, it didn't clear Customs until 8-5. Cleared VDC 8-9.

My situation is unusual, it appears. I dropped off in Paris and from then to "Liner Release" and "Customs Clearance", it took just one month and 4 days.

I'm awaiting a PCD date.

I dropped off in Paris too on Aug 17th and took delivery at the local dealer (500 miles away from Brunswick) Monday the 24th so a bit over 5 weeks. Seems that Paris is becoming really fast? For me it was faster than previous Munich drop offs.
