Temperature on the dash board

hi,i have an E46,318i year 1999.the dashboard displays the milage and the clock at the bottom.once i was going for skiing, and the temperature was low, suddenly i heard a BEEP for 3 seconds, then i realized that the dashboard is showing the outside temperature (3 degrees)instead of the clock.that was a surprise for me since i didn't know that i have this option in my car.the temperature display remained until i had to replace the battery, the clock was displayed again, and i am not able to retrieve the temperature display again.
kindly advise how can i get the temperature display again(other than going for skiing).
thanks

Try pushing the end of the lever on the left hand side of the steering column in toward the column. That should cause your display to cycle through time & outside temp, etc.

When you encounter 37oF (about 3oC), there is a low ambient temp warning to warn you of possible icing conditions and the display switches to temperature.

But isn't this explained in your manual?

Tom

Turn signal

On my car and everyone elses( i Believe), the turn signal has a button at the end that you depress to toggle between the different options.

Some E46's, including out '03 325xiT, don't have the button on the stalk to toggle through the information display. Apparently, it was an option or part of a package, and while common, is not universal. But, the functionality, down to the outside temperature sensor, are on all cars (I've seen the on one our wagon). I believe the only way to get that functionality is to replace the turn signal stalk and probably have programming done. The stalk is ~$140 new, plus installation, coding, etc.

Yep. He has the correct answer. Ailing batteries do weird things to BMWs. Last time my battery went low, the radio would only play "Mandy" by Barry Manilow

Perusing an eBay Motors "bmw e46 turn signal switch" search gives 50 different auctions, of which one must surely fit the OP's car. Or a trip to the local junkyard. Once found and installed, the car does have to be recoded (programmed) by a dealer or very qualified indy to enable functionality.
