Coolent smell when changing temp on climate control.

I'm new here. I have looked through about 300 threads with the words 'coolant' and 'smell' and nothing like this have I run across:

The issue: When changing temperature (say from 60 to 70f) the A/C works great, but it blows this coolant smell into the cockpit. It's like someone just dumped a gallon of Anti-freeze into the floor.

It does go away, but it's weird. Is there something I might need to know about the A/C system on a 740iL? It's a '95 with lots of miles.

Normally, I'd say that it is probably a leak in the heater core, but since it only happens when you change the temperature, I'd check the heater control valve first.
