1977 320i to be sold for parts
This BMW e21 has been sold (9/4/2010).
The Recaro Sport Seats have been sold (9/4/2010). 1977 BMW 320i (e21) sold as a parts car. I owned this car for 28 years and want it to serve as a donor in your project. Located in Memphis, TN. odometer 122,880 miles, white with black interior, 4 BBS alloy wheels, only 50 miles on driveshaft, intact 49-state emission system, no cracks in glass, AC, sunroof, vented brake rotors, spares include 5 steel road wheels. Was my daily driver, ran and drove nicely, but not started or driven recently due to body rust problems. Car is complete except for Recaro sport seats sold separately. Recaros in 320i parts car
Thanx for your interest in my e21.
Yes, I still have the original BMW 320i Recaro sport seats in excellent condition. About 20 y ago I put heavy sheepskin covers on them, and about 5 y ago I removed them from the car and took them inside the house due to discomfort about Recaro lust in a neighbor. No joke. The sport seats are nearly, but not quite, concours. BTW I am a 1996 Porsche Parade concours 1st place winner, so I know full well what concours is. Please allow me a couple days to photograph the seats and find a way to send the jpgs to you so that you can consider them. |

e21 strut/shock tower rust
Quote:
I have photos of both the rear strut towers in the trunk ready for you. I need to figure out how to send you these 2 jpg's. However, it was strut tower rust that made me sufficiently uncomfortable to stop driving my e21, so both of us may have the same problem. |

Ok, Kamakazi21: Photos of left, right, and pair of Recaro sport seats are now posted in the My Garage/Garmisch/BMW 320i section of this Bimmerfest site. The right seat is as I remembered from 5 years ago -- it could not be more perfect unless it was cleaned and polished. The left seat has a split in the door-side bolster and minor defects in two other panels.

Shock strut towers
Ok, 18wheelerbob, I have posted photographs of the left and right shock strut towers in the trunk of the BMW 320i. The photos are in my (Garmisch) section of My Garage pulldown menu of this Bimmerfest website.

shock towers
Thank you for pictures, but your towers are in worse condition than mine. I spoke to a welder near me, he can make and replace the original towers. By the way I have those same rims and I had them chrome out. They look so beautiful with 195/60r/13 tires on my 1980 BMW 318 BAUR TC1 convertible, recently painted (polaris) with a new Black convertible top, I'm afraid to take the car out. LOL

miscellaneous parts
I have a 1980 320i and am looking for several petty parts as part of my budget driven restoration project. I am assuming that most of the parts for a 1977 are the same. I am a new to this so I am learning as I go for the most part. Perhaps I should be thinking of the whole car and just stripping out what I need, but here is a partial list of stuff. The hardware that secures the jack and lug wrench, the mat for the trunk, the side markers in the front bumper, the emergency flasher button, the trunk seal (mine is missing and until I get a larger budget I need a cheap fix) and the holy grail of parts the original stereo. I have been told that it would be cheaper to replace the hood and trunk deck than to salvage mine (the product of a bastardized paint job). Email me with any thoughts as to some logical thinking as I limp through the early stages of my restoration.

Scott, Your restoration project is well conceived. The 320i was a nimble and comfortable car.
There is a lot of interchangeability between 320i years. No doubt my car has many parts that could be useful to you, both now and in the future. My car has all of the parts that you asked about except for the stereo, which is an aftermarket retrofit. Only the front speakers are believed to be original. There have been others interested in minor parts, but except for the front seats the car still stands complete today because I am not quite ready to part it out. The front and rear bumpers look factory new, new driveshaft, flawless windshield and windows, etc. – the whole package can be purchased for less than a few important parts. Let's talk off thread about this. |
