LED Tail light replacement
Hi everyone,
After following my wife in our x5 last night, I have realised that the outer LED rear tail light is not illuminated on one outer side. The brake light is working. The manual states that if the LED lights fail you need to take the vehicle to a BMW dealer. Does anyone know if the LED can be replaced and if so how do you go about it. My car is an 08, so has the pre LCI lights! Thanks again. |

Last I looked at the lights, the LEDs were not servicable, but I could be wrong.

Technically you can take it apart and replace just the burned LED (or, most likely, burned circuit damaged by a water leak), but you have to be rather handy. It's easier just to buy a used one off eBay.

Because I read somewhere a long time ago that a person had a burned out led tail light and he took it apart, he had to put it back all together because everything one connected as one. Good thing BMW didn't notice and replaced the whole assembly under warranty.
