Oil should meet LL01 but must meet ACEA A3,B3 as a minimum. It's on the label or spec sheet on the web.

I'd use synthetic.

oils? what oils?

Thanks everyone, oil change and filter on my wife's e46 today, I`ll be using synthetic,
in fact I`ll be doing an oil change on my e39 530i next week, I have done 5000k`s since I bought it in may - the previous owner used Mobil 1 synthetic. I have heard that this oil might have quality issues. Anyone heard that?

Never heard that about Mobil 1 -- quite the opposite, actually.

M1 0W40 was/is the dealership oil in most of the world. Remember M1 0/5/10W30 does NOT meet spec (to thin, HTHS to low).

He is talking about the main factory been burned down last year. Now most MObil1 is produced in Egypt, but I dont think that there is any degradation in quality. It is still an excellent oil, been OEM for Mercedes must mean something.

pice of rubbish?

Actually I `heard` that piece of rubbish in one of the forums I was browsing over the past few days looking for opinions on various oils.

I din`t take it too seriously as I use Mobil 1 in my e39 530i and am very happy with it.
