Maintenance/Warranty extension on an '06, worth it?
Hi guys, I was trying to do some web research and came across this forum. Wanted to get some non-salesmen opinions on the extension packages from BMW. I have an '06 M3 convertible, bought new in Oct 06 and the 4 year coverage is about to end. Only have 21k miles on it, only major events so far have been:
- Regular replacing of those poorly designed floormats (the velcro keeps ripping from the foam bottom liner) - Re-vacuum seal the back area that sits under the convertible hide-away (was rattling from a loose piece or something, it was a minor fix) - Battery replacement last month, randomly died in my garage not from lights on or anything So in about a month I have to decide whether the $5k 2 year warranty and/or the $2.5k maintenance packages are worth getting. Since I've had next to no problems and aren't sure when I'll be changing to another car, I'm wondering if this is really worth it? Anyone with experience in this or has ideas on what to do, I'm all ears. Thanks in advance! |

The extended maintenance for you doesn't seem worth it as you drive less than 6K miles per year. It would probably cost you less to pay a la carte than to pay for the MPU up front. If you were driving 12K+ miles per year (or tracking it
As far as the extended vehicle protection plan, you could always go for the additional 3 year/additional 20k mile powertrain plus version (bringing it to 7/70 from the original in service date). This is half the cost of the more comprehensive one and would cover the 2 most expensive parts of your (and my) car--the S54 and your tranny. Good luck.
