Question on rainsensing wipers

When I put the wiper switch into the delay position, the rain sensor seems to work just fine. If I turn the key to the off position and then start the car again I have to turn the wipers off and then back to the delay position again in order for the rain sensor to work. I find this kind of annoying. Anyone else notice this? Is there any way to get the wipers to just be in rain sense mode all the time???

That is standard across the BMW range.

By design.

Prevents activation of the wipers when not intended if left in the sensor position (i.e. going thru a car wash, etc.)

Presumably you are talking about a 2010 or older X3, the 2011 (subject of *this* forum) will probably have the button for autowipers instead of the switch position. The 328i loaners I've driven have this and it's far more intuitive because the light on the button is simply out when you restart, so pressing it again is obvious. I agree having to turn it off then back on in the current X3s is a bit goofy.
