There goes my windshield - One month in
AAAaaarrrgghhhh!!!
Just got back from a day of golf in small town Alberta, and got to drive on a wonderful newly chip sealed highway. You guessed it, rocks flying, took one in the windshield, and now I have a nice crack right across my line of sight. Why on earth do the people that run transportation departments thinks that chip sealing is a good idea? The road noise is intolerable, and the cost of all the lost windshields has to be astronomical. I'm willing to bet I won't even be able to find a windshield for another 6 months. Any thoughts on aftermarket windshields? The last one I had in my E60 you could see wavy imperfections across the passenger side. I think I'll cry now.

Bummer - especially sad given your username.
Does insurance cover?

Haha. The username has more to do with my pathetic short game on the golf course!
In my chagrin I missed the obvious irony! ![]() Yes I do have insurance but I wonder how many claims they will tolerate before they get sick of me! I drove for 25 years and never lost a windshield. Now it seems I can't go six months. Its the windshield gods getting back at me I guess. |

If it makes you feel any better, a rock cracked my windshield 6 miles after I took delivery.
Fortunately it wasn't bad -- the window guy was able to fix it instead if replacing the whole windshield, but I know your pain.

Just got a quote from the dealership.
$752 for the glass, and about $60 for some moulding. Plus install I would think. Actually quite surprised. I was expecting double that. Windshield is in Canada, moulding has to come from Germany. Normally I would NEVER replace glass in Alberta before winter. but in this case, the crack is right in my line of sight. You know, it just doesn;t feel the same drinving a brand new risdewhen you have a cracked windshield....

In some states and provinces, a chip directly in the driver's line of sight cannot be repaired. For instance, VA has such a law so therefore the entire windscreen must be replaced, like on my mom's 325i.
