Anthracite Headliner or not?

I currently have an ED F10 on order for an October build. I've read other threads regarding the headliner which apparently comes in one standard color....Oyster. I understand the need for the Anthracite headliner with a conflicting interior i.e. beige. However, my current spec is with Oyster seats. Does anyone have Oyster seats with the Oyster headliner and is happy, delighted, and prefers this combo? Or, do most Oyster seat lovers prefer the Anthracite? Thanks for your input!

I have both and love it.

Some people think the anthracite is amazing... I for one simply don't get it, feels claustraphobic. Recommend seeing it in person to see if you like it.

I have Oyster/Black interior with the standard offering headliner and it's simply gorgeous. I suppose you could put the darker headliner in place, but personally I think that would look too dark - like a cave. There seems to be lots of enthusiasm on the Anthracite headliner on these forums, so me thinks there might be lots of cavemen here.

Actually, it was my wife who wanted the Anthracite headliner with the full beige interior in my new 550i. I had it with the Caramel interior in my E39 M5 and she loved it. She's hardly a caveman at 105lbs and 5'5''.

I think there are actually 2 standard headliners, the oyster (used for oyster/black and beige), and medium gray which is used with black, gray and cinnamon interiors. I had thought there was also a beige headliner, used with the beige interior, but they do use oyster for that.

All that said, I decided to get the anthracite headliner with my cinnamon interior (on Black Sapphire). I had the same color interior on my previous 335i, and the gray headliner didn't look bad, but it did create three distinct colors in the cabin along with the black carpet and trim and the brown seats. I thought the anthracite (black) headliner would consolidate the look and set off the brown seats better. If I had chosen the oyster/black interior, I would have gone with the standard oyster headliner, the overall look is beautful, IMO.

The Anthracite headliner is not too dark. I have it on my 2008 E60. It is more a function of what looks best with your color scheme, The standard Oyster Headliner looks beautiful with Oyster/Black. I would do that which is exactly what I did.

I beleive that the only headliner choices are Oyster Black and Anthracite. BMW really needs to offer a Beige headliner like MB and Audi.

I would like to have the regular Oyster headliner with my Oyster/black interior but I understand that is part of the M Sport Package and I want that package. I wonder if the Antracite headliner can be deleted from the M Package. Does anyone know?

I agree with Newmanium, why make the cabin feel smaller than it is? I've never seen one in person but who is going to look up to appreciate the amazing look of your black headliner?

Anthracite really is the black. I have seen the Cinnamon interior in a 550i and it uses a gray headliner, and that is also used with the black interior and the gray interior. The oyster headliner is used for oyster/black and the beige interiors.

I have a black headliner in my E93, with Jade Grey seats. I think it's fine with the convertible. But for a sedan, with a similarly colored Oyster interior, I'd go for the regular Oyster headliner.

3 things to consider in my book. First, it does make things seem smaller inside. Secondly, for the narcissistic, it makes it harder to see yourself in the mirrors to check your hair etc., especially if yours is dark, since your hair will blend into the background when parked in a garage. Lastly the cost, if applicable. I wear a cap when driving (usually with the top down), and I check my hair prior to leaving the car. Less of a concern in a sedan.

I got oyster/black with the oyster headliner and I'm very happy with it. The only reason I choose a lighter color leather this time was to ligthen and freshen up the cabin. Getting the anthracite headliner would have reduced that impact.

I've spoken with two different sales managers and both said one can NOT delete the Anthracite headline from the M package.

That's too bad! I guess I will have to go and look at one in person now to make sure I don't hate it before I order my car. Thanks for the info.

To each his own, I suppose but I don't see how you could "hate" it.
I can see a preference one way or another, but I can't see how it would dissuade you from buying the car.

As for anthracite making it feel smaller inside.....

Even if it did, only the rear seat passengers would notice

It's individual taste. Kinda like beer. Some people like Coors Light, other prefer Guinness, and then there's everything in between. You have to see it in person to figure out if it's for you...

I did the anthracite headliner option w/ my black interior, but in the photos above I much prefer oyster with oyster!

Thanks you for all of the input particularly the pictures from TJPARK 01. I've decided to go with the Oyster.

there's no wrong choice, both look good. It's like trying to decide if you should get a red Ferrari or Black. Yes please.

I agree, it clearly looks best with the black interior. I did notice that the headliner is about two shades darker than the interior. The slight contrast is most noticeable where the A pillar joins the top of the dash.

It does, it does make it feel smaller. Just like when you paint a room with a darker color. All black interiors sure feel smaller to me than light interiors.

Perhaps hate is too strong a word, but I could dislike it big time. If I do, I will still order the car of course but I would cancel the M Sport Package idea.

The Anthracite headliner looks spectacular with the Black leather and Cinnamon Brown leather interiors.
