Ordered a 535I today

After weeks of debating and going back and forth, I finally ordered it today.

535I Jet Black, Black Dakota Interior

Sports Package
Paddle Shifters
Dynamic Handling
Convenience Package
Premium
Premium 2
Heads Up display
Smart Phone Integration

I was going to keep my nicely loaded 2008 535xi when it came off lease. I took ED in 08 and love the car. It's my second e60.. After seeing and driving the new 535i, I decided to go for it and take the plunge. Rather than drive the same car for another 4 or 5 years, I figured Id start with the new body style, and keep this one for a long while, maybe till the next 5 comes out in 7 years or so. I also decided against XI. In 6 years of owning two XI cards, I truly only needed it a handful of times. I'll throw snow tires on in the winter months and save 3 miles a gallon on top of it all. money is not the issue when it comes to gas, but if I can be a little greener, why not. Since I'm not willing to drive a Prius, the least I can do and save a few miles per gallon here and there.

I imagine i wont see the car until late October.

Anyone have any suggestion for critical options I might have left out?

I'd delete the convenience package and replace with ventilated seats. You get keyless start as standard, so do you really need the self closing trunk, doors and keyless entry?

4-Zone climate is also nice if you have rear seat passengers.

Note that the head-up display does not work with polarized sun glasses... at least not on the 550i that I drove at the ultimate drive event -- they may have fixed it by now? I personally don't think that option is worth it anyway.

As a fellow traveler on this planet, I thank you for your forbearance when it comes to gas mileage. You will find that the non-xi also, somehow, feels lighter on its feet than the xi.

Congratulations! Why did you decide not to get the Integral Active Steering (IAS) ?

I don't feel the IAS is as important as dynamic handling. Not that i'm suggesting its one or the other, but choosing ride quality is more important to me than the steering assistance. I don't feel its worth the extra $$ and i already have an abundance of electronic assistance. I'm an enthusiast at heart who traditionally was against computers interfering with my feel of the road. I am slowly evolving but feel steering is an area where i don't need such assistance. Hopefully, Ill feel the same way after getting the car.

I didn't realize that about key-less start,,, thanks for the info. As far as the trunk and doors, i tend to agree with you, but my wife really likes it.

I have heads up display in my current car, and had it in my previous 5 as well. You are correct regarding the polarized sun glasses but I still really enjoy the option. Especially the nav instructions projected on the windshield,,, very cool.

I agree with your thinking, but I have to ask this question before someone else does: Have you test driven a 535i with IAS ? (I've only driven a non-IAS equiped car)

Light reflected off of glass is usually polarized, so the display might be filtered out by the polarized sunglasses. Maybe there is a thin film coating that nullifies this phenomenon. For the same reason, polarized glasses should look through windows that have a lot of reflections in them better than non polarized glasses.

You are probably having the same problem I am having. Since AIS is a Priority 1 option I have not found a dealer who had a car with AIS for me to drive.

I would DEFINITELY get the Anthracite headliner since you want the tripple black effect. I don't think the gray headliner would look good in your configuration.

I have the Anthracite headliner and I think it looks fantastic with my oyster/black interior. I can only imagine how nice it would look in a full black interior!

After what you already spent on the car, $500 will be a small addition.

Its defiantly not the money, I have yet to see a car with the headliner. My concern is that it would make the car appear dark inside, having nothing but black.

Jet black is notorious for not being able to stay clean.

Anthracite headliner is personal taste - with black leather it makes the cabin too dark. also, when do you ever look up at the ceiling while driving?
