X3 German rollout and transmissions

The initial information from BMW Germany covered only two F25 X3 models: the 20d and the 35i. There is now a sales brochure in German available at www.bmw.de and it covers four models: 28i (258hp), 35i (306hp), 20d (184hp) and 30d (258hp.) Only the four cylinder Diesel is available with manual transmission. All the sixes get the 8-speed auto as standard. Bad sign -- although it may be that the manual transmission will be offered on some sixes later.

The brochure (6.89MB) is available at:

This is not a new trend, although it is not necessarily 100% indicative of what comes to the US. In Europe, the X1 xDrive23d and xDrive28i (the top-spec diesel and sole petrol) are offered only with automatic transmissions, so in that market, it is not unheard of to offer top-spec vehicles only with an automatic. The big seller there is the 20d, both for the X1 and X3.

However, in the case of the 5er, the 550i was offered solely with the automatic in Germany. Yet in the US, a 6-speed manual is available. However, given the extremely slow sales of MT in the X3, it is extremely unlikely that an MT will ever be offered.

Maybe if the manual lovers could gather 1000 signatures of commitments to preorder manual at the same price as automatic, BMW would make a limited edition for the US. Maybe they'd even settle for 100...lol

Thanks

That was a great joy to view. That 308 spoke wheel is really nice.
Amazing how the Germans have TV and internet. We are finally moving towards internet...I think but still no TV options.

Edit: Sweet. The 308 is standard on the 35i in the US. In Germany the 307 is standard on the 35i.
