Question to those who drove both X5 2009 and 2011.

This question is addressed just to those members who drove both X5 4.8 of 2007-2009 years of production and X5 5.0 with 4.4 engine of 2010 year of production ( model 2011). I don't mean X5M.

I'm the owner of new X5 4.8 with M-package. In Sport mode DS it is excellent, but in normal mode D it happens sometimes that the engine doesn't accelerate quite quick as if it thinks while sometimes it is quite fast.

Those who drove 2011 model with 4.4 engine do u think it is worth to change my new X5 2009 with X5 2010 ( 2011 model) with 4.4. engine ? Will I notice very big addition in acceleration ? Those who drove Mercedes G-class with AMG 5.0 motor could also compare with it.

Thank you for your advise in advance.

4.8(2010) vs 4.4(2011) engine

My husband has a 2010 4.8 engine. This weekend I traded a 01 x5 for a 2011 x5. My husbands sometimes hesitated when accelerating in what would be first gear. It is weird kind of feels like you start off fast and then let off the gas. When it does not hesitate it is super fast. Mine is a 4.4(2011). I think they did the engine different in mine. It will start off fast but not as fast as his if it doesn't do the weird hesitation thing. Did that make any sense?

The 2011 X5 4.4 is turbo charged, you are probably noticing some turbo lag. The 4.8 is naturally aspirated so it should accelerate smoother. However, the transmission is probably why you feel that hesitation. The transmission needs to be re-programmed.

I dropped off my 07 4.8 sport two weeks ago for an 2011 50 w/ sport and adaptive drive and 20" wheels. I can say flat put that I am so glad that I leased my 07 because the 2011 is a far more superior car. The power is well deserved and is exactly what the car needed. The 8 speed trans is like butter and Is a much better trans and really gets rid of the jerky trans in the older x's( even with the software update). I love the BMW Idrive and never found it difficult but the new one is much better. The new hd based system and for lack or a better term "faster idrive boot up" actually makes the backup camera usable. On my 07, if I waited every time for a picture to show up I would be a month behind schedule. Now the camera actually turns on when you jump into the car ad back up. I swear that BMW updated the brakes on the new 2011 otherwise it took my wife 3 years to learn how to break. I feel they are much smoother and are not supper grabby on the slightest touch. I also feel the car rides better but I am comparing 19's(old) to 20's(new).

I had the old 4.4, drove 2010 4.8 for a month and now own the 2011 5.0. By far, the engine has alot more power compared to previous engines. Great transmission. The new engine + Trans delivers where the 4.8 failed. In DS mode, it feels like a sport car and it seems faster and smoother than my wife's 335......
