Memory Seat question

Has anyone else had this problem ..... I set my seat by holding down the memory button until it turns red and then hit #1 . Husband does the same for his on #2. When I want to go to my settings I hit #1 and my mirrors move to the right spot but my seat only moves a little .and not to where I had preset it to ...... is this a malfunction ?

Quick question, are you using the same key(a) to set the seat mem(1 and 2) or are you setting seat mem 1 with key (a) and setting seat 2 with key (b)

Depends if engine is running...

I bet your engine is running when what you are describing happens. If the engine is running, hold down the #1 button -- it will move you to your seating position. If the engine is off, you can just press #1 once (not holding it down) -- that should get you to your seating position.

Hope this helps...

On E70s the memory seat/mirror function is linked to the active key. Each key can have different settings for BOTH memory buttons. IOW memory button #1 (and #2) can be different for each key.

So you should set BOTH seat memory buttons (#1 and #2) to fit YOU when you are using your key. And your husband should do the same with his key. Note: you only need to set button # 2 if you like to use different seat positions for different uses (e.g. button #2 might lower the seat to ease getting in and out).

BTW as bayarea328xit posted, if you hold down the button the seat and mirrors will eventually move to the remembered positions.

Edit: The above description applies to E70s without comfort access. There have been reports that E70's with Comfort Access have fewer remembered seat settings YMMV.

Correct. BMW does this for safety reasons... they do not want you to accidentally press the wrong button while driving and get jammed against the steering wheel, or pulled out of reach of the pedals. Hence the requirement to hold the button down the entire time the seat moves to the memorized position, if the engine is running.

Yep, you either have to do it before you start the car or hold down the button for the seat to go to the memory position - a little BMW quirkiness for you, works different than most other cars.

Ah Ha ! Yep , engine is running when I do it ( thats how my Escalade worked , so yeah it is different ) . I was just pressing it down quick . About the key ....... I have the keyless start , but the remote is in my purse . I think my husband set his #2 position with my remote also . So does it work thw same when you're not actually using the "key" ? Thanks for the help .....you guys are the BEST !
