First Time BMW Owner

Just ordered my first BMW, X5 3.5 Sport Package. I am really excited about this purchase. I have also decided to do the Performance delivery on the several recommendations from this board. My car is in production as we speak. The only addition upgrade that I am considering is the tire and rim protection plan, as long as I can get 5 years, I feel it is worth it at $1149 from what I have seen other people have been quoted. The delivery is scheduled for 11/5/10 up in South Carolina, coming fast!!!

Welcome to the club, but I guess by taking that insurance, means that you will have to stay on rfts, they wear out just as quick as a standard tyres, are twice the price, and ride hard.
I wonder if you opt to change to non RFTs if your rims would still be covered (I don't think so)

waste of money IMHO

Yeah I agree. I was just doing some research and it really is not that great of a deal. I think I would switch to non run flats after the first set goes. Sucky thing is that I did not get the spare tire option. The car is being built now, I wonder if I can add it or is it too late.

I did not get the space saver spare and it is too late for me . Is it possible to put a spare in after the car is built?

yes, if you don't have 3rd row. I believe the kit cost around 400, more than the 150 option that it would have cost if it was built.

I am going through the process of deciding whether to accept or decline the wheel and tire coverage, and just posted the following thread, which you may find helpful. (It's on the F10 forum, but applies to the X5 as well). See Post #43:

Thanks for the link. Definitely true everything that you said. I think I will hold off on getting the protection, since everyone seems to recommend getting non rfts, since the ride will be a little better and they are cheaper. Then the coverage does not cover the new tires if they are not RFTs.
