3 Series Hybrid

I saw the announcement that they're going to start bringing the hybrid down the line and will hit the 3 series. Just looking at the MSRP for the 7 hybrid, seems to be a $20K premium for that technology.

Anyone guessing how much premium will be on the 5 & 3 series?

Makes sense in a lot of ways to bring hybrid technology to the 3 and 5 series if they are looking to increase fuel efficiency. I would imagine the premium would be something around the $12 - $20k mark but it would really depend on what would be included. I'm not sure how big of a market there really is for a hybrid 3 if it is going to cost $50k - $60k base price....

If BMW learned anything from the abortive 335d launch its that you can't charge massive premiums for a green car. A 328 hybrid would have to come in 2-3k above the normal base 3 to have success. Anything more and the question of value becomes impossible to ignore.

Except here in California where everything with a hybrid badge sells (ok, maybe a slight exaggeration)

Yes, the Prius sells well to old boomers. BMW's target market for the 3 isn't a group over 60.
