slot in glovebox

I noticed an empty slot on the left side of the glove box in my newly acquired 328xi. In a prior BMW I owned there was a flashlight in the glove box that was rechargeable. Can anyone tell me what this is for by chance? It is just a slot with no electronics, so I assume it didn't hold a rechargeable flashlight.

sorry, meant to specify its a 2008. the USB port is in the center console in my 2008. The slot in the glovebox looks like something clipped into it and there is no electronic connection, its just a slot a few inches long.

The previous owner didn't include the flashlight when they returned the car?

There is a space for a dead keyfob

They used to issue plastic keys and there was a plastic keyfob case(looks like keyfob with no buttons) that when combined with the the plastic key will start the car. There is a place in the left hand side of the glove that allows this case to clip in. I have one in my car

It might be the LED pen light holder. In later deliveries, BMW stopped including the flashlight...or the previous owner didn't return it...it is about $40 to replace I think.

Yes, it was for the flashlight. On 2008 models it was a battery powered flashlight. In the nearly 3 years I've had my car I can't recall ever using it.

I picked up my e92 in late 06/2008 and it came with a AAA-powered, BMW-labeled LED penlight that clipped there. I was also told that my car's shipment was the last were the light would be provided.
