That I am not sure. The best way is to call them and find out. This is my first time driving the BMW, I had the Mercedes E63AMG. Tuning using Renntech. They are just one of the best tuner. I heard Dinan is also great and famous on tuning BMW.

In the 740, the aforementioned N54 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six is uprated from its previous 335i application by more boost, to the tune of 10.2 maximum psi. (The increased pressure as well as BMW's greater experience tuning the N54 for higher performance are why the new, single-turbo N55 wasn't used here.) But even though the N54 engine is same as the new 335 series. Our ECU is little different. So those jb3 software tune will not work for now. Last edited by mbworldz; 09-25-2010 at 07:24 PM. |

I realize that this is an old thread but was wondering if the Dinan software would theoretically give the 750 more straight line speed than an Alpina and 760?

doubted. Close to their speed, the most. I am guessing 0-60 around 4.6 to 4.7. I will be getting mine tuned this coming Monday. We will see what difference it will make. I still hesited if the tuning will make the engine sound louder, If that is the case I'd rather not to tune mine car. will call dealer to find out Monday morning.

"Dinan matches the new car warranty coverage for up to 4 years or 50,000 miles, including the possibility of consequential damages."
I will most likely end up getting the extended warranty and I wonder if Dinan will extend the warranty. The tuning sounds amazing! "Top Speed Governor Removed. With Dinan’s software, the 750 Li will be capable of achieving its natural top speed as the governor has been removed. The results of Dinan’s tuning are nothing short of breathtaking, with the added boost and related recalibration producing maximum output of 495 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 573 lb-ft torque at 3500 rpm."

short time. but it might not be able to repeat the same acceleration if you keep doing it without letting the engine cool down. because Alpina B7 use bigger cooling pipe, bigger radiator, larger intercooler, extra oil cooler, bigger radiator fan, and even the front spoiler of Alpina B7 was designed to channel more cooling air to the engine. The problem with Alpina B7 is they still use the 6 speed transmission, while your 750i use the 8 speed transmission... that mean the 750i should have closer gear ratio and this mean improve acceleration. I also quite sure that the Alpina B7 is slightly heavier than the 750i (more radiator, bigger wheel, bigger brakes etc etc) so this is why I think the Dinan Tuned 750i would be able to match the Alpina B7 0-60 time, provided that it is done only once or twice in a short period of time. but after the Dinan Tuned 750i engine temperature gets hotter, their performance will drop, while Alpina B7 performance will remain constant. Turbo charge car are sensitive to heat. oh by the way, Alpina B7 also use larger turbo charger, stronger Mahle piston, and Alpina B7 use stronger drive shaft (heavier but stronger). so Alpina B7 gearbox and differential will be able to handle the extra power with no problem. (if I am not mistaken, the Alpina B7 have an extra differential cooler... but I am not too sure on this one) while a Dinan Tuned 750i might experience some problem if you keep on driving it hard all the time. I actually think that with all those stronger driveline and 6 speeds gearbox, the Alpina B7 should be able to handle even higher power... and Alpina B7 had bigger turbo so, I think Alpina B7 can have higher boost pressure, but if they maximize the power, it will eclipse the power of the 760i and this is not good for BMW. hmm.. Alpina B7 also use different method to reduce engine power between gear shift, so Alpina B7 have faster shift time compare to regular 750i, but this is only millisecond in difference... I think the Dinan 750i tuned is good value for money, but it might not be as reliable as an Alpina B7. Last edited by BMW Alpina; 11-07-2010 at 03:30 PM. |

Actually the 760 uses the 8 speed tranny, but the 750's still use the 6 speeds.

Thanks for the correction. but I was googling (in a quick glance), and I open a website (not official BMW website) that have active hybrid 750i spec, and it show that car (the active hybrid) use the 8 speed, so I assume other 750i use 8 speed. apparently I am wrong, I should have open the BMW website directly for more valid info. my mistake... |

A dinan tuned 750 will offer great performance but does not have the additional safety precautions that Alpina put into the engine. I think that long term both cars should be just as reliable especially in the US. Most of the time, even a tuned 750 will operate within conservative operating parameters. Plus unlike other tunes, Dinan takes a complete approach. I know for the N54 and I suspect also for the 750, Dinan also changed the programming of the cooling system providing the engine with more cooling. |

Dinan Tune update:
NO GO!!!!! Drove 2 hrs+ back and forth for nothing. Dinan tune is only available for 750i so far. WTF, Dealer just sucks for not telling me upfront. I told them my car model and all that, setup an appointment, when I got there, they kept me waiting for 30 mins and then came out telling me it will only be available for 750i so far. Really pissed off today.

Just got words from Dinan that for the AH7 the tune will not work. Only the 750.

This is directly from their site. It states specifically for the 750li! I was going in tomorrow to get more info on the warranty issue, I will find out what they say. I might just contact Dinan directly and see what they say.

where 750iL is self leveling... the engine is the same... maybe your dealer do not understand well... better contact Dinan directly for clarification. |

Regarding the Warranty. I have asked the BMW dealer, they only cover the original warranty, if you have 4 years than they cover 4 years, but if you got the extended warranty when you bought your car, then they will honor the extended warranty.

If they do a tune for us (AH7) Cocodrilo, then we will have a beast beyond compare.

Update:
My "local" (60+ miles from where I live) dealer, whom I went to yesterday had a miscommunication with Dinan Sales Rep. They thought my car is a X-drive. 750Li and 750i, both car a OK for tuning. I could not do it anyway yesterday, since the dealer needs a special ethanet cable. This cable is only good for 750 dinan software upload. They used to dinan tuning other model BMWs with a different type of Cabel. As I mentioned, I'm the first 750 owner requested this tuning. For all the trouble I went though, it's better worht it.
