Mein Auto: 2008 X5, 4.8l
how do I get the bottom power steering hose off the pump?

Help! Please!

I have everything peeled open and have dismantled everything I can, but there is still one hose on the ps pump that I just can't get off!

I am replacing my groaning and barely functioning power steering pump on my 2008, 4.8l, X5 with adaptive drive. I have removed the fan housing, the serpentine belt (at least pushed it aside) various hoses (which impeded access to the torx bolts on the ps pump) and have even removed the alternator to get better access to the pump. The car is jacked up too, so I can even get underneath, but I haven't found a good reason to be under there as of yet.

Two of the 3 ps lines are off, the flexible rubber one that was attached with a disposable hose clamp and the rigid curved line that attaches from the pump to one of the pressure hoses with a flange fitting on the left of the pump (when viewed from the back of the pump.) What remains is the high pressure line attached to the bottom of the pump. I think this is the "hollow" bolt. I can see the little f'r from underneath the car, but there is no way to get a socket on it.

Has anyone done this job? Or has anyone seen a thread from someone who has? How do I get this bolt and hose off the pump?

Thank you!

Eric

This repair is tough because the suspension crossmember needs to be lowered - so the engine must be supported from above. The are a few diagnostic routines for the dynamic drive which need to be done afterwards as well.

Good luck.
