Odd steering wheel behaviour

Hi everyone,

I have an odd steering wheel behaviour that is puzzling. Can't figure out what's causing it and I don't want to throw parts at the problem.

This concerns the return to centre behaviour of my steering wheel. When i turn my wheel to the extreme left and then let go while driving, it returns to centre more or less normally. However, when i turn my steering wheel to the extreme right, it returns back to centre very slowly...roughly taking about twice the time as from left-centre.

What is the likely cause of this problem? Any insights would be very greatly appreciated. If there is more than one possible cause, I would appreciate if you could rank them in order of likelihood. Thanks.

Roberto

Could it somehow be related to worn suspension parts on a particular side? Have you ever replaced your suspension? What about your front tires- are they both new, or is one more worn than the other? What kind of surface have you done this test on?

If everything is alright, i wouldn't worry about it. Just manually bring the wheel back

This is what I'm doing now, and i'm doing it fairly automatically so i don't think about it anymore. However, I want to know what is causing this problem.

Yes i have some worn suspension components. I'll be changing them out today probably. However, could this symptom be related to a faulty steering box?

my car used to do something similar. when i barely turned the wheel and then let it go and rolled forward it was continue to turn until full lock. very frustrating. luckily for me my problem was just needing new tires and a proper alignment. which was already planned for me. just a suggestion.

Yes, as a matter of fact, I'll be getting a new set of tyres today, suspension components fixed up early next week followed by a normal alignment and a high speed wheel balancing on my front wheels Thanks Mike 5er.
