Thank you for your details. Please keep us informed on the improvements you see on your X5. Also, let us know whether you are running at 100% and any fault codes.
Did you buy the BT Cable package? SN

Congratulations...you have now given unequivocal video evidence for BMWNA to void your warranty. Good luck...you're gonna need it.

I'm pretty sure dencoop is not concerned with the ramifications of chipping his X5, but anyone else needs to think long and hard before doing such a thing to their $25,000 engine. Interesting read on Burger Motorsports site: (boring legal jargon) WITHOUT LIMITATION TO THE FORGOING: (I) PURCHASER EXPRESSLY ACKNOWLEDGES THAT USE OF THE PRODUCT MAY VOID ANY OR ALL WARRANTIES APPLICABLE TO ANY VEHICLE IN WHICH A PRODUCT IS INSTALLED AND PURCHASER AGREES TO RELEASE, INDEMNIFY AND TO HOLD SELLER HARMLESS FROM ANY CLAIMS DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY RELATED TO OR ARISING OUT OF ANY VOIDED WARRANTIES RELATED TO OUR ARISING OUT OF USE OF A PRODUCT; (II) PURCHASER EXPRESSLY ACKNOWLEDGES THAT PRODUCTS MAY CAUSE DAMAGE TO ANY VEHICLE IN WHICH SUCH PRODUCTS ARE INSTALLED AND PURCHASER AGREES TO RELEASE, INDEMNIFY AND TO HOLD SELLER HARMLESS FROM ANY CLAIMS DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY RELATED TO OR ARISING OUT OF ANY DAMAGE TO A VEHICLE ALLEGEDLY CAUSED BY A PRODUCT; AND, (III) PURCHASER EXPRESSLY ACKNOWLEDGES AND HEREBY AGREES THAT PURCHASER IS FAMILIAR WITH AND AGREES TO COMPLY WITH ANY LAWS, RULES OR REGULATIONS RELATED TO PRODUCTS (“APPLICABLE LAWS”) AND PURCHASER AGREES TO RELEASE, INDEMNIFY AND TO HOLD SELLER HARMLESS FROM ANY CLAIMS RELATED TO OR ARISING OUT OF ANY ALLEGATION THAT PURCHASER FAILED TO COMPLY WITH APPLICABLE LAWS. So barring any goodwill from Burger Motorsports or BMWNA (not likely) you and your wallet will be on your own to cover any problems in the future. Better hope your engine wasn't made out of the batch that JerrySpaeder's was... http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...engine+failure For those of you who have not read it yet.

I think you are all getting bent out of shape over this !!!!
Anyone who chips his car is obviously prepared to forgo his Engine warranty? or do thay want to drink from both sides of the cup !!! but you are all missing the fact that BMW uses the same 3 litre diesel engine in the 525d 530d (high(245) & low(211) pressure single turbo) 535d (twin turbo - 286 BHP) 540d (twin scroll turbo - 306 BHP) it's just BMW software that has made these vehicles more powerful, or less powerful (211). If you get an OBD tune done by a Tech that you can trust - I have one that has done two of my previous cars with no problems. You can get your 3 Litre turned up to match BMW's own power outputs. BMW does it to the mild side to be certain of Long life, so 306 BHP & 650 Nm out of a 3 litre engine is not going to hurt it, that's what BMW do !!! Also, upping the torque to 600Nm the same as the 40d, is not going to hurt your tranny either. BMW run the same 6 speed in the X5M at 550 BHP & 650Nm, and as long as you don't use all that power off the lights in first gear, you won't break it. Now it depends on how you want to think !!!! do you want to hold BMW accountable for every fualt ? then you should spend the extra on the BMW next model up. most of you already drive the 35d at 286 BHP. Over here people (like me) buy the 211 BHP (same torque at 500Nm) as the 245 BHP or 35d, because of the registration tax is lower., and obviously the car is cheaper. But all these Power train configurations have the potential to be opened up to their full power, matching the BMW figures. It most likely will not break, but if it does, then you can not complain to BMW !!! I intend to have my low pressure 30d tuned to 300 BHP & 600Nm. It's cheaper than trading it up to a 40d.

Marlbro--
Excellent point...If you are willing to risk chipping your car...be man enough to face the consequences and don't expect BMW to fix your problems if they should happen. I think we may be in a different situation than you are...being in Europe and all. Our cetane numbers are a lot lower than those typically found in Europe. IIRC 51 is the minimum with 60 available at Shell (V-Power diesel) GTL. The best anyone can find here is maybe 47-50 at a few select stations. 40 is the most common cetane number in the states. I think BMW only sells the 3.0 I-6 in America with its current state of tune due to the low cetane numbers at the pump. It's going to be pretty hard to increase hp and torque reliably without better fuel in the states. Cheers
