Dual Exhaust question in 2011 x35i

Do both exhausts work at the same time or does the second one work only when the engine is running over a certain power/speed?

I've just noticed this morning that my left exhaust is working but not the right one. How do I know? First, at cold-start, there was a little water vapour coming only from the left.

After driving for a few miles, I stopped, checked both exhausts, one after the other with the "feel test". Meaning I touched it with my bare hands, very carefully in case it is too hot. The left one is very hot (normal) but the right one is almost ice cold, meaning it didnt exhaust anything.

Is this happening to everyone or is it just me?

I will take a look on mine. However, now that you mention it, I did notice the other night when it was cold that the left tailpipe was visibly emitting exhaust and the right was not...

The right side has an exhaust valve that only opens over a certain RPM and always looks cleaner than the left. It can be disabled so it is always open and adds a fair bit of sound. Check my post on it here http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=438628
