ticking when going to start up car?

When I get in my car and do not put the key in there is a constant ticking (like from the radio)..

seems like something to do with the AC unit.....anyone else have a similar experience.

I'm sure its something that the car is doing to get ready for you to start it...ie fuel pump, oil pump, etc.

If you do not have the new I drive (07 to 09) than you are hearing the Nav DVD player starting up.

oh really....its a 2011 50i. I have a CD in the main thing, so that is what is going on?

Keep in mind this is happening when I did not even put the key in the ignition. When I open the door and close it I hear the noise....literally coming from the AC unit controls dead center.

You have the new Idrive so it can't be the Nav player starting. Take your CD out and see if it does it if it doesn't, than it is the CD player. it doesn't matter if you have the key in the ignition or not. If you have comfort access, the car senses you are near and starts to boot up systems. If you don't have CA, than the car starts to boot up when you unlock or open a door.

Took out the CD....did not notice it. Kind of odd though will see tomorrow morning. Why would it tick if there is a cd in there?... Don't want to have something running and kill the battery.

It is the CD. It is trying to get the CD ready to its last position/track.
