I only have a line of pixels out across the radio channel only. My bet is you will have a lot of response here.

We can repair the Mid Radio Display for that price. All you have to do is pay for shipping to us and then back to you ontop of the repair price.

www.vdorepair.com charges $299 for cluster repair, and warrantees the work for life. I think they do the radio for around $250.

I realize that. It's nice you offer the customer's money back if the cluster is unrepairable.

I went with BMWNA's blessing and got a new one from my local dealer installed for 400.00 with a two year warranty but you offer a decent option for those unable to take advantage of BMWNA's kindness.

They have not updated the website, if you actually go through the order process, it clearly states "lifetime warranty" for $299. I emailed them to confirm that fact.

BTW, I have not actually used them. I recently had mine done at BMW Seattle, having a refurbished cluster installed using BMWNA's "goodwill" discount of 50% off part and I pay 100 % of labor. Total came to $452 with tax and they did it while I waited. Includes 2 year unlimited mileage BMW warranty.

Okay here is the cheapest I will go. $250 with a year warranty on the repair. if within a year it goes bad again we will try and repair it again for free.

Hey you guys, I just posted this one also.

VDOREPAIR.COM will do the repair for you. Like I said, they offer a life time warrantee and they are really good with emails and answering questions. I just did mine through them about a month ago and it works perfect.

You pay for the shipping to them, they fix the problem with the life time warrantee, and that price also includes them shipping it back to you. The person I've been emailing with is Annett, she great with answering questions.

I'm confused.

Can the OP clarify what they offer (with pricing) for:
- Instrument cluster pixel repair
- MID pixel repair

Most of us (but not all) had the instrument cluster replaced under warranty (I did) and whatever they did, seems to have held; but almost all of us (if not all) have MID pixels going out line by line.

The OP seems to be about the instrument cluster while the discussion seems to be about the MID.

Can you clarify? thanks!

okay to repair the instrument cluster its $250 with a one year warranty. Shippign is usually between $20 and $30 anywhere in the USA because we insure it, incase of any shipping issues. We dont want to be out a new cluster and we dont want you to have to be out the money and a cluster too.

We off this cheap of a price for two reasons.
1. your shippign the cluster to us and paying for the return.
2. If the cluster is said to be not repairable then we will just ship it back to you and refund your money minus the shipping fee.

If you pull up the diagram (like using realoem.com) you will see that your eyes are NOT deceiving you.

Lower the steering wheel, undo the 2 screws at the top, then tilt the cluster forward and lift it out...then disconnect the (3) electrical harnesses on the back.

That's it.

If your car was built BEFORE 9/97....then you will have the instrument cluster that has the separate IKE (#2 in diagram) ...but to remove the cluster from the dash is the same...just 2 screws up at the top need to be removed:

Wrong!!

The two screws hold the instrument cluster in place, but you have to remove the bezel to get to the cluster. The link provided above to VDO Repair site has the correct procedure.

I stand corrected. Thanks. I've removed my e38 instrument cluster before and assumed that the e39 cluster was removed the same way. I wasn't aware that the side trim and bezel needed to be removed.

A thousand apologies for assuming that the e39's cluster was just as easy as the e38's.

Instructions for removal of the instrument cluster to replace the small bulbs responsible for proper mileage display was covered today here:
- E39 (1997 - 2003) > Mileage dimmly lit inside instrument cluster

There are 3 screws at the top inside edge of the cluster and the two screws under the wood trim strips.
The cluster will pull right out, just disconnect the cables and change the bulbs.

For the record, a user figured out why his CEL didn't light today:

Yet another thread where the CEL light doesn't glow at P2 on the ignition ...

Is it possible the DME is bad???
