easy iphone music hookup 2002 e39 530i
Hi This isn`t about the `phone` in iphone, it`s more about playing my music from my iphone.
now that I have begun to get the hang of itunes / and finally getting a decent selection of music on my `phone,I was wondering if there is a better way to play my music through the audio system. I have been using an Fm modulator tuner but is is crap quality and more annoying than satisfying (hmm where have I heard that before... ha) especially having all the wiring in the way. Would it be poss to hard wire a female usb socket into my audio unit that would allow me to just plug in my iphone usb lead and play? My car has the factory radio / cd stacker & tv but not sat nav or dvd player. cheers |

The Dice Silverline is one option for hardwiring your iPhone into the stereo. Not through the USB, though. You would have to give up the CD changer. And Dice has had some integration "issues" (e.g. freezing) with other iPods but most agree it is worth having GBs of music at your beck and call.

Thanks, though not sure if I would sacrifice the cd stacker - I like audiobooks on cd -

I dont know how much work or money you are willing for this project, but ill tell you what I did: (Warning...this may lead to a series of upgrades of the stereo. It s like an addiction for some...lol).
Go to ebay and find a Rockford Fosgate 360.2 signal processor. It is small and can be mounted easily back by the cd changer. this gives you complete control over the sound system dynamics. It comes with an auxillary input (RCA), that you can buy an adaptor for your iphone. Also has separate volume control module. You can add a iphone mount up front without too much hassle too. Now, if you really get hooked, you will swap out the front stage speakers, eliminate the rear fill, get a better amp, add a bass, and it goes on...lol

I have hundreds (if not thousands) of hours worth of audiobooks on my ipod it's a lot more efficient and enjoyable than using a cd. |

Audiobooks on CD are a ginormous waste of space. I rip all my CDs in a lossless format that uses about 10x the space that MP3s take because I'm picky about audio quality, but as audiobooks are simply spoken word, why not compress a dozen or so books into the space of 1 CD?
DICE allows you to control the iPhone with the car stereo. An auxiliary input will require you to operate the iPhone, similar to an FM modulator or tape adapter. Depending on where you live (handsfree laws), this may be something to consider.

Unless you have a build date of 9/02 or later, an aftermarket iPod adapter is the only way to access your iPhone library.

build date
I am a bit dim today, mine is July 2002 build, does that mean I cannot use an ipod adaptor?

It means you need to get an AFTERMARKET iDevice adapter; BMW does not make one for your car.

sure will if I buy the item,I guess the company would offer advice , it seems its as simple as running a cable from cd changer to iphone, depends where you locate the iphone i guess.
You are in Mississippi? Great place, was there recently visiting Jerry Lee Lewis' family, Bob Hope was once asked how rich is Elvis Presley? he replied when he first started out he couldn`t spell Mississippi, NOW HE OWNS IT. Thanks......... Last edited by Matman44; 11-04-2010 at 05:28 AM. |
