MobileOffice compatible phone
Hello folks,
I know I'm not exactly in the right forum, but that was intentional. A lot more new 5 owners than 7 owners and the question relates to all new BMWs. I just took delivery last week of a Sept 6th, 2010 built 750Li. It has the Combox controller (option 6VC) and I'm able to get most of the new features working (Bluetooth streaming, cover art, iPod controlled with a single cable (no need for Y-cable even though I have one anyhow sitting in the glove box). What I can't seem to figure out is what model Blackberry's are compatible with MobileOffice functionality? I read originally that the Pearl 3G is and that the phone must be running 6.0 OS. Firstly, has anyone tried this phone with the newest BMW feature and does it work as advertised? Does anyone have any idea if other models are going to be supported? I hate the Pearl and do not want to go out and buy one. I wouldn't mind buying a Bold 9700 (I'm on AT&T) or worst case, Torch 9800, but I don't want the Pearl 3G. I currently have a Bold 9000 that is near its end of life. I tried a Bold 9700 running 6.0 (hacked) and that did not work. Anyone have any ideas? Would be much appreciated. Randy

Torch has O.S. 6 and should work. I have a 2011 535, but it does not have the combox...

Allows you to see which phones have which functions, can even filter by function.
http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/nav...eck_intro.html A lot of the Nokia and Sony phones appear to have the office or at least some of the office functions. Looks like there is an update available for pre September build cars. http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/nav...re_update.html http://www.bmw.com/_common/shared/ow...PD01000_EN.pdf Only vehicles from selected European markets will be supported in the case of vehicles with production dates 03/2010 – 08/2010. The software update is not required for vehicles with production dates later than 09/2010. |

Yes, I've been to this site before, but it previously didn't make any sense.
The Mobile Office integration is specifically supposed to be a Blackberry integration, yet 3 Sony phones came up at the time I checked, and now the Blackberry Torch comes up (finally). I'd love to see the Bold 9700 which is a natural upgrade to my current Bold 9000. As for drivers, yep, saw those too. Hopefully we'll actually see additional drivers being released as time goes on. Thanks! Randy

If they could it I am sure that they would. However I am quite happy with my July build 550i as is.

All kidding aside, mine is sitting at Bayonne, NJ waiting for delivery to my dealership and equipped with the new combox. I'm sure there will be additional enhancements through the model year an we'll all miss out of them being we bought early. It happens.

What does the newer ComBox give us in the USA market? I thought most of this neat stuff was just some Euro markets.

Thanks. I would like some of those features. But when I visited the supported phone list. Only 4 phones from AT&T had the necessary bluetooth protocols to hook up with Mobile Office. I have the iPhone and could not possibly switch to anything else. Verizon has none. So I'll have to wait a year or so for the phones to add the Bluetooth support they need before I can take advantage of most of the MobileOffice features like getting SMS and calendar on the iDrive screen.
And boy if the new combox means it can get updates, that's a nice feeling. Since my car was built last week, I guess I'll have it.

Yes, but other features do work with the iPhone (such as cover art, bluetooth streaming, single cable connectivity/no need for Y-cable), and yes, if your car was built last week, it will support it. My Sept 6th 7 series build supports it as does my biz partner's new X5 he just picked up today.
Oh, almost forgot, yes, you can upgrade the software. Drivers will be available at http://bmw.com/update Randy
