Any E93 problems? Looking to get one

Has anyone had any major E93 problems? I'm looking into getting a CPO 2007 328i convertible. Just wanted to know if there are any common problems or any problems people have been having.

You live in NYC? Hmm.

**Paging CaptainAudio.**

The 328i is a good car. We don't see too many issues with them. The N52 straight 6 engine (that comes in the 328) is what BMW does best. They've been producing these NA straight 6 engines from a long time and they know what they're doing in that respect.

As for NYC: many people will contest that New York is not the place for a 3 series (with the road conditions). I don't spend much time in Manhattan these days and rarely drove my 3 series through there, so I can't really comment.

One of the reasons I bought 07 -328i because my co-worker and some of my friend own 3 series.
I have been wanting BMW for so long and spied on them to know that the car is reliable.

Car runs smooth without major problem.

Get it! Let's drive.

BMW 3 Series are very common in NYC and I suspect that most owners are very happy with them. My suggestion would be that the OP test drive one on the roads he will be driving on before he makes a decision. It would probably also be useul to read these threads:

My experience may not be typical but I have not found an E93 with the sport package to be a suitable car for NYC.

But Capt'n, you've ordered Koni FSD's to cure the problem?

We're waiting for that - if successful, you'll sell a ton o'those for Koni....

But, truth is, 5's better for city streets, as high speed cornering prowness would not be a priority. Bigger. Sweet ride too. Potholes handled with ease.

I've seen a few posts regarding water leaking in during heavy rain or when washing the car. It doesn't seem to affect everyone, but if a car is having issues it seems very difficult to get fixed correctly.

There was also the "Fluttering Noise" issue. Mine does not have the fluttering noise and the top does not leak.

If you are asking about it as regular E9x platform, then I think it's a fine car as I have driven and know someone who owns one, fairly reliable and fun compact car. I have lived on the upper east side before and when revisiting the old neighborhood, I have noticed quite a bit of road surface deterioration vs early 2000. So keep that in mind.

If you are asking specifically about the hard top reliability, it depends on your luck. I have been looking at convertibles for sometime and originally thought about E93. But upon reading about couple of incidents of roof failures that would cost over $12k to repair (covered by BMW currently), I got scared away. If you are comfortable with a repair bill of that amount, then good for you. I am very risk averse and not comfortable with a gamble like that. I know a failure of that nature could be rare but then what's the upside? I could have enjoyed much of the open air motoring experience with a E46 vert or E85 Z4. But this would be my 2nd fun/weenend car, not a daily driver. Also, I read somewhere on this forum that CPO doens't cover the roof; so make sure you double check with the dealer. Please share your findings. Good luck.

Rich

YES!!! Defiantly. Keeping my wife out of long enough for me to drive it. Love it, but have only had it 2 weeks.

I have a 328i coupe currently and I love it. This one is going to have the sports package and premium package. It will have about a year or so on the original warranty so I should be good. I'm just worried about the windows making noise and stuff when the top is on and they are up. Also, I'm a little worried about the top having issues after a few years, but I guess I'll take my chances. The extended warranty will cover the mechanical issues for the hardtop, but I'm worried about the non-mechanical parts.

I was a skeptic until yesterday. How can people stand driving topless when it's 45 degrees out? In my E46, 55 was about as low as I could go and still be comfortable with a jacket on.

Well, yesterday it was cold out...real cold on my Texas skin... as I stood with the kids at the bus stop. I got into the vert after the bus came and decided what the heck. Top was already down from the drive home so I just popped up the wind screen and rolled up the windows, turned on the seat heaters and pulled away.

I took this picture as I pulled up to a stop light. Believe it or not, I was actually too warm driving this way.
