Pricing for the BMW X3 starts at $37,625 (xDrive28i) or $41,925 (xDrive35i)

BMW announces a base price of $37,625 for the all-new BMW X3 Sports Activity Vehicle®, which arrives in dealer showrooms by the end of the year. That is the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price for the refined, 240-horsepower X3 xDrive28i. The turbocharged, 300-horsepower X3 xDrive35i will have an MSRP of $41,925. Both prices include $875 Destination & Handling fee. Both models feature a standard 8-speed automatic transmission and BMW's acclaimed xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system.

BMW sparked the creation of today's hottest industry segment with the 2004 introduction of the original BMW X3, a vehicle designed to be the best-handling light truck in the world – a true BMW – while affording its owners generous space and versatility to accommodate their active lifestyles. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery then the competition has been very sincere indeed. For the second-generation BMW X3, the designers and engineers took inspiration from every lesson learned in the original X3's seven-year life cycle and forged two new models that extend the reach and strength of the original. Variable Sport Steering is also included with the package. Additionally, for the first time, the X3 will be available with BMW's Head-Up Display as an option.

With a base price of $37,625 for the X3 xDrive28i, the all-new 2011 X3 also represents a notable jump in value over its 2010 predecessor, which started at $39,725. The 2011 X3 will include more standard equipment, including Bluetooth connectivity, iPod/USB interface, anti-theft alarm system, and on the X3 xDrive35i, standard BMW Xenon Adaptive Headlights. Produced exclusively at BMW's Spartanburg, S.C. factory, the new X3 will be supported by a state-of-the-art ordering and manufacturing system. Customers will be able to make changes to their vehicle order until six days prior to the start of production.

As much I did not like the F25 getting bigger then the current X3, I really like what I see on pics right now, cant wait to see it in real life!!

It's cheaper?

Does it have the pano roof? If not, that takes a big chunk of change out the base cost especially as they are seriously expensive to replace during the warranty period.

It (pano roof) will be included with the premium package.

I can't wait to see the options. Already the Xenon headlights are standard on the X35i. If they include leather seats ...meaning they have to decrease the price of their premium package, that might cut into the 4K difference.

One question might be whether one might want a turbo engine? I think it was slightly worse with fuel consumption. Same with 18" tires.

In the end, the difference might come down to 2K or something.

ah, they are FREE to replace during the warranty period.

When you hear that the 28i is losing 20HP it makes you a little nervous. Then I realized that my 2005 X3 only had 225 hp and it is just fine. So the drop down is actually an increase of 15 (from the 2005).

So right now it is interesting waiting to see what else is included on the 35i. If it something you would have ordered like xenon headlights (we already know) then you can deduct that off the 4000. I hope it includes leather seats as standard. If the final difference is only 2000 then it might be better to just go with the more powerful engine.

The Germans are up in arms over on the German forum. They've always known they pay more for their BMWs, but the price reduction in the US market has them grumbling pretty loudly.

"It's as if BMW AG wants us to buy our BMWs in the US!"

The xDrive28i starts at €38.361 there, xDrive35i at €43.571. The xDrive20d basic model starts at €32k, all prices not inclusive 19% VAT. Standard equipment levels are also lower.

So despite the USD tanking (and thus, cost of production), the X3 remains an extremely expensive vehicle in the European market.

New 8-speed transmission.. less weight.. still the same displacement... Betting it is faster than the current model, despite the lower horsepower...

But Europe is like that. Everything is more expensive. lol Video games that we pay $60 for here are like $80. Cameras are more expensive when you do the conversion so overall, they just pay more for stuff.

Sometimes a high price keeps things more exclusive. What I could do without is all the lease deals that make the car seen on the road more often than it should be.

Is it really? lol I sort of felt bad for them because the way things are priced, it creates a larger separation between the haves and have nots. Maybe their countries tax China, japan and others who send stuff there so the store people are forced to make things more expensive. IDK.

Sadly, I never acquired the taste for beer. But I gather I am not missing much.

Not to make this a political thread, but I don't really have problems with the tax system there, at least based on multiple observations. I would seriously consider relocating to Germany in the long-run.

Understood. I guess you reminded me that even though they may be paying more for items tey are getting free healthcare, college and other things.

Oh...I did a calculation without the Sports package but instead included
1. Heads up display
2. metallic paint (should be standard IMO)
3. destination charge ($875)

For the 35i I got $54, 125

For the 28i I got $50, 525

This is a difference of $3600...before tax. For me, that is an additional $216 tax. So $3816 for
1. Better engine
2. 18" tires

Oh Damn...I just remembered I forgot to include premium audio. That's a must.

I'll leave it off for now but for me, I will be adding that and the Rear Entertainment System. I'm disappointed that BMW didn't include it as a factory option because this gives the idiots at the dealership the option to make up some ridiculous "labor" charge.

My links went back to not opening so maybe I'll post later with premium audio and RES.

There will also be hidden costs like tags, title, etc. I can't remember how much that stuff is. Does anyone remember?

OK. The final realistic cost estimate for me is:

$55, 991 for the 28i...a far cry from 36K.

I took the $50525 figure above and added:
1. Premium sound ($875)
2. Rear Entertainment system (2K)
3. $500 -tossed in for tags, title. other hidden

This comes out to $53,900. I took 2% off...which is what they did for me when I got an X3 before. That comes out to $52822. Next I added the 6% tax for my state ($3169)...

At 55991, we might as well say $56,000.

For my 2005 loaded the same way it was close to 50K but that didn't have heads up display, this new nice style, the dampening control, power liftgate, comfort access. Still, 19K in options and tax is too much. I'll look at it again.

Basically BMW is more expensive. I will still choose it but a Mercedes GLK loaded up how I would prefer was about 48.5K before taxes. Compare that to 53.9K.

Yeah...I realized later that I should have added the Satalite radio and phone int. It was fine though since it added up to $500...the amount I threw in for tags, title, license.

The difference is I would want the Rear Entertainment system but I could do without the Sports package. With Tax and it would be well over 60K...probably 61 or 62K. Once you get that high, you must consider the Porsche Cayenne.

Seriously I don't want to see any 60 anything. Out of principle, I probably draw the line at 58K. When i tried to configure the Porsche Cayenne and i got to the 60s, I said back to X3.

Just found out they are run flat only (the new x3).

And was told by the sales girl just back from SC that they are not replaceable/interchangeable.

Won't buy a vehicle with them if possible.
