Help with Oil Separator parts

I was wondering on the part diagram for the oil separator parts how I know if i need the regular hose or the "for vehicles with cold climate version" part for the hoses and what not....

attached is the diagram to show what i mean....

The cold climate version just adds some foam insulation on one of the hoses. I would get the cold climate version unless you live in the far southern states.

Do I just need to buy all the parts on that diagram anything else I will need?

Some people also choose to replace the oil dipstick.

Also, if you have a leaking oil filter housing gasket leak, now is a good time to do that DIY. You'll have an oil leak on the right side of the engine while facing the car.

If you remove the dipstick, you will need to replace the oring 11431740045 as well. I highly recommend using Vaseline or oring lubricant on this oring to reinstall the dipstick as it is a very tight fit.

You don't need to remove the oil dipstick though do you?

I is not absolutely essential to remove the dipstick, but it is not uncommon for the drainback passages in the dipstick to become clogged at which point the CCV system ceases to be functional. If you can hook a piece of hose onto the dipstick & blow into it without much resistance, it should be fine.

Get the insulated for cold weather parts. I thought the old uninsulated ones had been super seceded by the newer insulated ones. The failure is typically caused by the uninsulated plastic tubing to become brittle and crack creating vacuum leaks etc. Be very wary of the clogged dip stick tube as mentioned above. This is a pretty tight job, or at least it was on my 528. Haven't had to do it on the X3 yet. You might want to think about replacing the oil filter housing gasket why you are working in that general vicinity. Be aware of proper torque specs on any removed bolts. Good Luck!
